Hi There FanBoys an Girls After modelling a Reasonably good rendition of "Armour Y" (ironman) I made it a FreeStuff thing.

But NOT having Poser, I was only able to make it available for Carrara C6 and Express users and a poseable prop for DazStudio users.

So I'm hoping this will be a call to arms, that will become a kinda Tutorial type thread or walk through on Rigging a Figure in Poser.

I'm going to show the rigg that I made in Carrara with all the Airbrake movement and parts that were skinned.

I will require a concise ordering of obj's that the prospective riggers will require.

This is the Rig as it appears in Carrara. Note the addition of extra joints for the Airbrakes on the Back, Forearm and Lower Leg. Plus the Visor.

Due to him basically being a Droid. I decided to only skin the Deforming parts. Neck, Waist, Hands and Knees. The remainder of the parts were then hung on the rig.

Zikeo, I am going away on a business trip for two days. If you haven't found someone to do this by the time I return, I will do it. I have some experience, I have made about  200 Poser models, and I made Vincent Parker, so I know what I am doing. Speak to you in two days time.

It would be really nice if Cararra would export CR2's since it can now read them.

Miss Nancy posted Tue, 26 August 2008 at 9:02 PM

I found Zikeo Armour X.car in freestuff here, but didn't see
armour Y.  the cr2 format might limit figures to the default poser body part
group names.

Miss Nancy posted Tue, 26 August 2008 at 10:19 PM

I'm getting approx. 538,000 polygons for the ArmourX.obj (file size approx. 90 MB).
it works o.k. in c6pro, but I dunno if poser can handle this, with the added burden of
the JPs in the cr2 file. I reckon there would be few or no morphs.  we'll await word
from helgard.

538,000 polys???
lol...now that's a lot of polys! 😄

poser....will...lock...up

Alright!! Okay Helgard. No worries, I'm sure a couple of days won't disapoint the awaiting hordes.

I never realized the poly count was that high.
I was going to lower the res a bit before saving the obj's out of Carrara.
I'm guessing that might help a bit?

I do have a guestion though.
MorphS??
It's Ironman? What morphs would you need?

we''l await word from helg if any JCMs are needed.  we'll also await word on whether
that polygon count is correct.  538,000 was the count in UVMapper, which I suspect
may have over-counted them.   the carrara file may be only 900 KB, but the poser
file could easily be 100X larger in size, unless great care were taken in converting
this to poser.

DarkEdge posted Wed, 27 August 2008 at 5:27 PM

I open Simon in UV Mapper and get 80,877 polys, so that's roughly 5-6 figures just for your mesh.
There are some morph opportunities, did you see the movie? Micro bombs, air brakes, thrusters, etc. Adi Granov did the art work for the movie, might check out his sight for more info.

Hi there Guys

I have modelled in Airbrakes and Extra thrusters.

Micro mines and missiles could be added as an after touch.
Or,
On the back of the forarm there is a three part mesh area that could be rigged-morphed to open for the placement of missiles etc.

Zikeo,

A few questions. Is this UV Mapped and textured, or are you using procedural textures?

I think I should be able to do this well, if we can get the polygon count down a bit. A full figure, like M3, with clothes on, comes to about 200 000 polygons. So I would say the maximum Poser would be able to use comfirtably for a figure like this is 300 000 or somewhere around there.

If I do this, I will also rename some of the body parts to make it compatible with standard poses and BVH or motion files.

Let me know if you are still interested.

Hi Helgard

The UV mapping is poor and I'm using Procedural shaders.

I'll do some tests to see how low I can get the poly count and still have him look Okay.

Renaming parts is probably a good Idea for thoughs who want to use BVH and preset poses.

I'm still interested in you having a go a him.

Okay, I've had a play with the poly count. The base mesh ( which all Carrara 6 downloads have access to) comes in at 32,356 polygons. With a single stage smooth it increases to 129,282 polygons. I've tested the model in Carrara and Amapi, and they both say the same.

Zikeo you might see what the 32k model looks like, when brought into Poser and rendered with the Smooth Polygons render option.  It doesn't do the same thing as Carrara's smooth (catmull-clark polygon subdivision), Poser does Reyes polygon smoothing - while the mechanics are quite different, when working with a medium poly model like your 32k version, sometimes they can look pretty near the same.
