After 8 months of very good stability my Poser 7 just started going white and the screen was locking up. So I read that service pack three was more stable so I upgraded to it. Now it is much more stable but....
When I go to the pose library and try to load a texture onto a skin, like DAZ everyday male onto an M3 or DAZ creature textures onto M3 it is taking over a minute or more to load the texture. It used to just snap right on. I must admit I renamed the everyday male file to get it in a more logical place in the library (and so it may be searching for them) but the creature collection is as was installed by DAZ a week ago.
My renders are also taking forever to load the textures, although the actual render time is still pretty quick.
Can anybody give me some suggestions as to how I can get my speed back? I lost all my tweeks when I upgraded because the installer would not accept anything but a total overright of my setting files.
I'm writing this from my office so I don't have my home specs with me but I'm basically running an Dual core 6400, with Nividea, 3.0 g on the newest Vista 32 bit update.

Poser and Poser Pro are all relative path now and that will slow down your texture loading and texture loading when rendering.  Especially if you are loading older .pz3 files.  Also there were some changes to OpenGL implementation I think so you need to set that up properly.  Settings are as follows:  In render settings / Preview Tab use OpenGL / Hardware accumulation on /  Transperency Actual on / Enhanced Multilayer Transperency on /  Texture display 1024.

Another issue I noticed yesterday was the new Vista and Office updates effected Poser.  Outlook can't be running on my system if I'm using Poser now.  I have Business Contact Manager installed in Outlook and that may be the culprit because it and Poser use the 2005 C++ runtime.  On Vista you want to turn off UAC(user account control). You can find UAC in the Control Panel / User Accounts.  Also run Poser as adminstrator. This can be done by right clicking on your Poser icon and choose "Run as Administrator, or go into the properties / compatability tab / and check run as administrator. The latter will cause Poser to always run that way.

There are a couple of utilities out there that will go through your runtime and set everything to relative path for you. Check in the MP for those. Also in General Preferences / misc tab /  UNcheck file compression and UNcheck external binary morphs and just below that confirm that your temp file path is correct.

Damn, I can't believe that with this "upgrade" that we are gonna be stuck with slower uploads. And I mean reeeaaal slooooow uploads. Why the heck did they do that?
Ok, now just to prove I'm a total ditz, what's the abbreviation MP in "check in the MP for those" mean?
So setting everything to the relative path should speed things up? Or just make it more stable?

And I just got the new Vista updates a few days ago and now when I think about it that's when I started having the gray screen crashes. And I always have  my outlook running in the background whenever I'm working. I also have the business contact manager running... so maybe you are on to somethings here. Would never have thought of that, but I never dig deep into my programs to check things like that.

Your speed should return to normal.  MP is the Market Place... lol (sorry bout that)  The Vista upgrade is one of the cuprits for sure but I think the settings I gave you should fix all of that stuff :)
