Inspired by the 2008 movie Death Race here is the Death Racer. This model has been based on the few publicity photos avaliable, these only shows the right hand side so the left side on this model is conjectural. The photos show the right door is welded shut so I assume this is the same for the left door as well. So your characters will have to climb in the left hand window - Dukes of Hazzard style :)
This model has been turned into a figure so you can use MAT poses.
Two MAT poses are included.
One is based upon the 'hero car' from the publicity stills.
The second is a My_Maps mat pose.
Oh and it's yours for free - just use the link above.

Climb in? Where? Someone with my girth would never be able to get in that little opening above the crossbars on the side windows. ROFL. :D

Very cool-looking car.

Wait, are you saying you didn't go see the movie so you could see that the left side of the model looks like? And, yes, as an artist, you're supposed to suffer for your art, which means suffering through bad movie remakes. ;)

I'm not interested in the car model, although it does look extremely good.
I have to ask though, what program did you render that in? It doesn't look like it's composited over a photograph, not entirely, but those buildings, especially, look excellent.
Greebo posted Sun, 21 September 2008 at 2:30 AM
@mrsparkey: This is fab, thanks so much :)
@MikeJ: Can't help with the rendering engine, but the buildings look like stonemasons...well, one of the urban packs.

I'd love to see some of the cars from the original movie, those were great! And who can forget Stalone in one of his first (or first) movie roles (Machine-Gun Turbo if I remember correctly)
mrsparky posted Sun, 21 September 2008 at 4:24 AM
Mike - picture rendered in Vue 5 using a custom IBL setup - buildings as Greebo said.
If you follow the link to the car you can also find some detailed buildings for free.
If you like buildings then look for the buildings/diorama set I'll be making soon.
Eric - this came about when I saw the trailer for the new film - adverts are often more fun and creative than the programmes :)
While looking for source photos I did come across the original green - was it Frankeinsten? -car. If I could a find a suitable body I'd give it a try.
re- the orginal - that was definately Wacky Racers for grown ups!
The remake isn't out here yet but I bet they've removed some of the more non PC stuff - like the
exploding babys and the old people - that made the original cheesily watchable.

Actually they have completely changed the premise of the movie. In this new version the racers are all prisoners who race against each other. The winner gets to go free. Or something like that I haven't seen it. They don't score points for running over innocent civilians :)
The car was green, with teeth along the front. The driver was Frankenstein, played by David Carradine. Oh yah I checked and Satlone played "Machine Gun" Joe Viterbo.
