Is their a way to create a  procedural shader in Carrara that would make a realistic brush metal look? I am looking for the stainless steel look of a refrigerator, for example.  I am working on a project that requires this kind of look.

The problem that I am having is that if I rely on a texture map, it's becoming pretty hard to UV with out it stretching  and looking funky with out a lot of extra work.

I don't currently own any shader plugins, but I am willing to purchase some if necessary.

Lots of brushed metal shaders use at least a texture map in the bump channel.

I think there are procedural alternatives to make, but they will not act any differently in regard to bad UV mapping...

There are procedural metal shaders in this collection over here in the marketplace:

I would probably use the scan lines function mixed with a multiply of a shader color and value.

You can use a mixer like Noise Factory for color and reflection with   X and Y scaling values set  to something like 2 and then scaling the Z value to 1000. You'll need to use the anisotropic lighting model.  Blurred reflections also helps a great deal.

Funny Mark, but I ended up doing just exactly what you explained (before I read you post). The only thing i did not implement was the blurred reflections, that make perfect sense to me. Thanks a lot guys. I got it.

Are not the brushed metal shaders in the Browser?

PM me if you think you would like any/all as shown.

Yes, they are in there, but they relay on a Map, I wanted a procedural version. Thanks thou.

Try playing around with this for the primary layer, then tweak it as needed.  It's very very simple.  You can add a second layer to it with an opacity mask, and a cellular procedural to do rust and such.  Remove the .TXT extension, unrar and use.

This was one, of several, that are in my lot which do not relying on maps. Very adjustable.
