Have a question hto about the rule system, tho.... What if you have a preset texture that you like and it's kind of off-balance. How do you set it up? Also in the Volume texture,  how do you set that up without the glow?

Standard Texture:

In the Value section:
Diffusion: 33
Ambiance:2
Specularity: 10
 Metallicity: 45

In the Optic section:
Transparency: 10
Reflection: 20
Refraction: 1.00   Air

How do you balance those values in the value section along with those in the optic section?

Is the preset one that came with Bryce?
If it is, post a screenshot of the Materials Lab, then I'll post a conformed version to help explain.

It is one of the preset. Here's the screenshot.

Diffuse and Ambient colour, texture, or procedurals must be in sync.  Diffusion and Ambience values must also be in sync and are regarded as just 'one' value called the DA value.

The DA value should always be 100 unless you introduce Reflection or Transparency.  DA and Reflection or DA and Transparency need to be balanced so that their total does not exceed or fall below 100.

Note how Reflection is in balance with the DA value in both screenshots (their total is 100).  If you had not used Reflection at all, the DA value would need to be 100 to keep the balance correct.

pumeco ( ) posted Mon, 10 November 2008 at 2:48 PM

Specularity, Metallicity, and Bump have no rules in this 'Basic' version of Pro-Render.

ThunderStone ( ) posted Mon, 10 November 2008 at 3:32 PM

Thanks for clearing it up further for me, pumeco. So much clearer now. Was wondering about the Specularity, Metallicity and Bump.

So what happens in the "Advanced" version, if there is any?

Now I can go back and do a few renders now using this tip.

Once again, thanks!!!!

You're welcome mate, glad to help.

Yes, there's a more advanced version called Halobird.  Pro-Render Basic is actually a cut down version of Halobird in order to keep things as simpe as possible.  Unfortunately, it would take far too long to go into the Halobird ruleset.

I'm busy with the website with things that must take priority.  A release of Halobird is looking more and more unlikely the way things are going.

My time's not always my own like it used to be, unfortunately.

ThunderStone ( ) posted Mon, 10 November 2008 at 4:51 PM

Halobird???  Ok, when you're finished and have time, you can sit down and draw it up on your own time. I don't believe I have seen anything with that type of render. Is that still in the Premium Render with different settings ticked off?   Or does it involve the mat setting as well as the environment (sky, lighting etc.)?

It's pretty much the same concept as Pro-Render Basic really, only more rules, more complexity.
Damn scary render times as well :scared:

ThunderStone ( ) posted Mon, 10 November 2008 at 7:39 PM

You mean like 10 hours or days render for a 800 x 600 graphic??? That's nothing same as the non pro renders... LOL

Yeah, something like that

dyret ( ) posted Sat, 15 November 2008 at 2:55 AM

Does this mean you have a written set of rules for Halobird?

pumeco ( ) posted Sat, 15 November 2008 at 7:08 AM

Nope, I've never needed to write them out 'cause working on it was enough to burn it into my brain!

boekenwuurm ( ) posted Sat, 15 November 2008 at 2:10 PM · edited Sat, 15 November 2008 at 2:10 PM

Well... Wanna share?

Pretty please?

pumeco ( ) posted Sat, 15 November 2008 at 8:04 PM

We'll see.  But I can tell you that if and I do mean *if *I work on making Halobird into a usable product, it certainly won't be free like Pro-Render Basic was.

If released, it will be a chargeable vendored product.

boekenwuurm ( ) posted Sun, 16 November 2008 at 5:26 AM

That's fair. But I will be intrested, that's for sure.

I remember that Pumeco took A LOT of crap in this forum when he first started talking about Pro Render years ago.  I believe that it speaks volumes about this character that he would come back and introduce a free Pro Render product after all that.  THANKS PUMECO!

Analog-X64 ( ) posted Sun, 30 November 2008 at 12:23 PM

Is the Pro-Render that will be available, will it be Bryce Specific?

pumeco ( ) posted Sun, 30 November 2008 at 6:18 PM

@Dan

Cheers mate, I hope you find a use for it some time and join in with the rest of the players.  It's starting to pick-up really well now on the DAZ Bryce forum - slowly but surely!

Anyway, remember two things if you do try it ;

1 - Use 75% Shadows instead of the 100% stated in the video.
2 - I forgot to mention that the Sky Dome Colour (second from the right) should always be black.

@Analog-X64

It's already available, and yup, it's Bryce specific.

Here's a link to the downloads, but remember what I told Dan if you try it :

dyret ( ) posted Sat, 13 December 2008 at 4:01 AM

i have a problem when i use cubes in boolean operations. they render darker or sometimes totaly wrong in other ways

pumeco ( ) posted Sat, 13 December 2008 at 11:28 AM

You can't use the Bryce Cube or Booleans with PRB.  You should always use imported geometry to avoid those problems - can't be helped I'm afraid.

BTW, the downloads page is back up, but I've no idea for how long.  That URL might not be as permanent as I'd intended.  Those putting off their downloads till later are advised to grab them now :

I have decided to unlock this thread after talking to a few members.  This thread has useful discussions going on except the ones I've now deleted that were violations of our TOS.

We will keep an eye out and hope that everyone can continue on having a productive and helpful discussion .

Thank's Stacey, and thank's to the members who spoke with you.

pumeco ( ) posted Fri, 20 February 2009 at 9:25 AM

I never updated this thread to announce PRX reference is available

Anyway, it's up and the download is still good for about a month :

Please note, I can't offer support with this right now so if you play you're on your own.  That said, you still have each other to fall back on for help.

Hi, I just downloaded the file, but there's no video in the Video folder and nothing in the Demonstration Scenes folder either.

Is there meant to be?

No, didn't have time, but I included the folders just in case I made a video later.  I'll not be doing any more videos though, I doubt it anyway.

So... where's the video that everyone else is talking about then?

Bloody hell, are you nut's or something?

I told you in the thread on DAZ that I've just rewrote the whole file index for you to grab what you want!  It's the first file (the Pro-Render Basic download), it has a video inside.

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Sun, 08 March 2009 at 3:16 PM

Sorry.  It's my fault, I should have had more patience.

I was just thinking I'd missed the boat again, but I couldn't stop the render to look at the videos, if I tried looking at videos while rendering, Bryce would crash and I'd have to close down the PC and do a re-start - and I've got continuous deadlines at the moment, each week I need stuff ready for presentations.

I've got those downloads now and found the video.

Thanks very much.

That's alright, Fran, you're welcome of course 🆒

Don't get your hopes up too much, my videos are really crap.  Plus, I had this annoying habit of saying "OK" all the time.  God knows why because I just don't do that in real life.

Weird...
