High-born women with bound feet (lotus feet) wore tiny shoes and could barely walk. So, here's my Lotus Feet Shoes for the young Huang Hou ( Empress ) to my young Emperor.
Created in Shade 8 and Poser Pro. Again, texture source is the cdrom accompanying Chinese Patterns, a book by Pepin van Roojen, The Pepin Press, published in 2003.
I made it into a left shoe prop and a right shoe prop inside Poser Pro. Managed to avoid the severely slanting v-shape facet clusters.

I am using Miki2 as the figure base around which I created the Lotus Feet Shoes.

And be warned - next picture is disturbing, but it shows how things were really like for those poor women.

This is your biggest, most ambitious project yet, JC.
and may I bless necessity for being the mother of your incredible inventions!
These latest images are AMAZING. Great job with the Lotus Feet shoes, for one thing - the pattern is lovely! And your depiction of the crippled feet - I have seen photos of the poor women, and I applaud you for not shirking the awful truth that history has seen.
Looking forward to the "official" renders! ♥

Thanks, befanini. Really, I don't deserve all the kind words. It's just a simple personal project which needs some items I can't find easily.

Someone told me that the reason being for these "feet-torture" is some princess in ancient china was born with an abnormally small feet. It was ordered that women should bind their feet like that, so that she wont look like a freak of nature.
Another that I have heard is that this is designed so that men with foot fetishes can easily insert the girl's feet into her husband's mouth.
So sexy becomes someone with small feet.
Hey infinity10, what happened to the "Fight" thread. Did the admin deleted it?

I have a book that has an actual photograph of lotus foot....and it is actually worse that what you have....hard to believe as that is. Not trying to downplay what you've done at all.....if it seems that way. Good work. :)

This shows me that the ancient Chinese were nuts.

Yup, bound feet are not for the squeamish.
Sixus1 - I tried a more extreme version of Lotus Feet for Miki2, but the mesh started to give way. Perhaps one solution would be to come up with a pair of replaceable feet that resemble Lotus Feet more accurately. I might have a go, for what it's worth - but not right away. I can't think why anyone would want to render the Lotus Feet !
TheOwl - that thread's gone away now. I have also been told that the feet would not often get unbound for washing. But when that time came about, the escaping odour was horrible, and the toenails long and claw-like.

I wonder if some of them died due to gangrene? The foot may die due to poor blood circulation.

I made the leggings to go with the shoes. These are Dynamic Cloth props.

**Good God, I never even thought about that.

Looking at the small shoes again.... hmmm.... there might be something about Pony Shoe Fetish in other cultures of the present-day.....
That's another topic for some other place !

It is truly amazing sometimes what we will foist onto women in the name of "beauty". Heck, in our own culture, the 18" waists that adult women had to maintain using those god awful corsets that wound up causing serious internal injury.
Body manipulation in the name of some bizarre sense of what's considered "beautiful" just never ceases to amaze me.
Having said that, great job on this project. And as noted, thanks for being historically accurate on it.

O_o;;; I can imagine the odour (well actually I can't LOL) - but that would have been a given.
But claw-like toenails on top of the pain? Oh my...
Indeed, what strange rituals Humans suffer through in the name of "beauty". Apart from the corsets mentioned above, what about those indigenous women with the stretched necks/earlobes/lips.
Come to that, even the modern waxing is a mystery I still cannot comprehend.
Anyway - leggings added already! ^_^ When's the debut of the Royal Couple??? :m_bouncy:
