I want to make conforming swimsuits, bikini's, lingerie....etc.. for V4. What is the best modeler to use for this? I have used Rhino in the past but it doesn't work very well for this sort of thing, or at least I am not good enough at it to make it work. I am just curious as to what software is most often used for this sort of modeling or if anyone knows what the pro's are using? Preferably something that can produce High detail like seams etc... After reading a number of posts in this forum I am thinking Z-brush, and I will probably dload and try out the free trial, but if there is something that works better I'd like to know about it.
Thanks.

Perhaps I missed something. Can you point me to a discussion that answers the question?

Surely there is room in this forum for one more discussion on this topic.

From the forum header:
"What 3D Program Should I buy?" Not one person here can really tell you what's best for you, as everyone has their own taste in workflow. Try the demo or learning edition of the program you're interested in, this is the only way to find out which programs you like.
That really is very good advice. You can get good results with pretty much any modeler. It's more a question of which program(s) you are most comfortable with; and you won't know until you try them out.

The idea behind the questions I have is to reduce the possiblitiy of spending hours on end learning to use a complicated software package only to find out later that there is a better way. I'd rather hear from somebody who has been through that already. Free trials are great but you still have to learn to use the software, and most of them don't let you try it free long enough. Or there is some rub like it won't let you save your work, or not all of the functions work etc...
This is a hobby for me so the time I have to spend on it is limited. Before I comit to learning a software package I'd like some idea as to what most of the add on providers use SPECIFICALLY for creating tight fitting clothes for V4.
My intial reaction to watching the Zbrush classroom video's at their website is that Z brush won't work for what I want to do. But that is only an initial reaction to the basic videos. I have not gotten into depth with Z brush, I have downloaded but have not started using the 30 day trial because I plan to read up on it and watch all of the videos before I start using it. 30 days is not alot of time to learn something as complicated as 3D modelling software. I spent many months working with Rhino before I became profficient enough to start building half way decent models from scratch, without using a tut. I still do not believe Rhino can be used for what I want to do. It is great for making a suit of Armor, but I dont see how one can make a pair of tights with it. Thats a question for the rhino forum I guess. On the other hand Rhino is a 3D modeler and this is a 3D modelling forum. So maybe the question works here as well.

I disagree with that statement. I think there is something to be gained by listening to others who have already spent the time learning different software packages.

OK... all modeler can do what you want even ZBrush (I use it only for create more details and draps in the cloths). The problem here is how much you want to spend in a modeler to do that?? What dvlenk6 said about try the modeler is the best way... you dont need to learn all tool just feel the taste and if its more easy or not to learn. Theres a lot of people here at RO that create cloth in Rhino... dont matter if its a armour or a tight one, this is the modeler and not the software that will do this... you need to choose a software that you like first, if you want the low price go for Hexagon and Silo that are great software model. Second learn all tools and go for tutorials that show ho to model (forget the software! If you know the tools that you have in hands you can do the same in any software, since almost all tools exist in all softwares with different names and parameters). Third learn how to group, rig and create the CR2 files.
A good start is from PhilC tutorial:

Its modeler that make good models not program. You must feel comfortable with app, try demos dont read other users opinions. Everyone will prefer their own choice, and that can be totally wrong choice for you (hope this make sense). I use C4D and am very happy with it, but that does not mean you would feel comfortable in it.
Best buy choice would be Silo. It cost about 200$ and its equiped with very good tools.

Do this test: model a simple dress in Rhino and try the same in the others using the demo... then look what was more confortable to your work, then buy it and learn all tools... thats the trick here.

IMO the most powerful and flexible combination is Cinema 4D + interPoser Pro, with Riptide (OBJ import/export) and a couple of Dimension3D's Poser editing utilities. Expensive but VERY hard to beat. The modeling is actually the easier part of the job, although it's extremely handy to be able to model and UVmap and texture all in one application. Working with the Poser rig and with morph targets is the most cumbersome and difficult, to me.

Hydra said that is a hobbist...so I dont think that is a good companion for his job. But for the problems there some cool lowend utilities here at RO that can help a lot with Rig and Morphs targets.

I came across this thread while looking for info since I may be doing some modeling of mens underwear like such. Off that topic though.. for more generic modeling has anyone here tried the swift 3d plugin and done any vector modeling with flash? I keep hoping flash becomes a viable 3d gaming platform.

Here are tools that I recommend that have very low learning curves for modeling clothing. PhilC's Clothing Designer, Pegasus Modeler, Quick Suits by Thip, Autogroup editor, Quick conform, and a good text editor.
