Subject: Antonia - Opinions?

Cage ( ) posted Tue, 01 March 2011 at 12:16 AM

Quote - Once the FBM morphs are loaded into version 1.2 how would one transfer them to an older version...say 1.0?

Another approach would be to load the FBMs onto Antonia-1.2, then convert the resulting .cr2 for use with Antonia-1.0.  That requires changing the references for "Hip" to "Hip2" and "Waist" to "Hip".  Then the figureResFile lines would need to be edited to point to the desired Antonia-1.0 geometry file.  That might be easier than trying to transfer FBMs, with the BODY dials and everything.

And now I dare to post an idea I've got via mail. In fact I've got it two weeks ago or so but our mail accounts where messed up during February and until today. So I've got the a big part of my mail with an up to four weeks delay...

I am not sure what you think about this idea but I thought I should not keep it but post it for further discussion. I am adding what I recieved as I am not able to express the idea as good as you read it here:

"Is the Antonia team planning a release party of some sort? As a side note: I have a marketing idea  that came to mind the other day for Antonia that you might want to pass on to odf. Or my idea can just be ignored, as I'm sure odf has his own plans.
But my idea is.... Antonia should be put into the Renderosity market as a free model, just like DAZ does with V4. And of course Renderosity should support, protect and advertise the Antonia product. Odf can still keep the rights to his creation and its new versions. Renderosity gains will be the share of revenue from the merchants creations and support for a well advertised Antonia. Advertisements is key to the success of any new product. This is one of the reasons some new self created character models do not become popular, it is because the creator can not afford the advertisements like DAZ can. DAZ and V4 are everywhere you look with regards to 3D and art, DAZ success is from advertisement.
This is just an idea and it can be ignored. My hope is, I would like to see some other model with just as much popularity and support as V4."

So what do you all think about it?

Well, it's really up to Renderosity, isn't it? If they're interested, I'm on board, but honestly I can't be bothered going lobbying for it.

shante ( ) posted Tue, 01 March 2011 at 5:50 PM

8-)

To me it is a no brainer. But pray tell it depends who sent you the idea.

Please all forgive me for seeming negative I am NOT Trying....I am merely playing Devil's Advocate (which I do pretty good even in the real world!) and tossong the argument onto the wall to see what develops.  LOL

If it was a Renderosity exec/marketing person...GOLDEN! Fool if you don't not pursue.

But, if it was just someone with a great idea....and great ideas can be a dime a dozen in this world without action and bscking....well, in my opinion though I agree, unless Renderosity is willig to absorb said advertising it is a dead end...unless ODF wants to pay for it...which judging from a post not too long ago where he said he is pretty much finished with her having created her for his own pleasure and development and wants to sit back and see what the comunity rendered fruits of his labors bring.  ;)

@Shante: I make it easy for you 😉 Just follow the link and look for "Anna for Antonia"!

http://antonia.bluecho4u3d.com/database/sites/character_sets.htm

And no, it was not an admin or staff-member, "just" a nice person who admires Antonia. Somehow I knew that you, odf, would answer this and of course you are right. Paying for the advertisment is indeed a no-go as it would be paradox to pay for advertising a free figure. As said: I just wanted to share these thoughts because at least they show that the hard work that went into Antonia is apreciated.

But, and this is a big BUT, vendors are now required to add a direct link to products that will be needed to use there items. In other words: If a vendor releases a character set, a dress or something else for Antonia he will have to add a link to her download location. And as the Freebie-Site and github are non-commercial places it is even possible to add more information into readme's and such.

SaintFox ( ) posted Tue, 01 March 2011 at 8:39 PM

Not an additional update, I replaced the old files. And yes, it's meant to work with Antonia 1.2.0, the old file will give her an ugly step under the abdomen.

Ahem... odf... I begin to wonder about the kind of office-parties you are used to... LOL On the other hand my office times where in the early 80s, in Germany still the "Senf an die Decke!"/"Mustard against the ceiling!" times.

Hi, new here so dunno if this is the right place to ask, but is there anyway to get at Antonia's low(er) rez cage mesh ? I'm assuming there is one cause she looks like a SubD model. I use poser stuff in other apps with SubDs and she will work a lot nicer there without the extra polygon flab. Thanks !

EDIT: To clarify, this is purely for my personal use, I dont intend to do something silly like try and sell her or a modified version or anything like that.

odf ( ) posted Tue, 01 March 2011 at 10:05 PM

Antonia comes in a low-res and a high-res version. The low-res version files include '-lo-' in their names (Antonia-lo-1.2.cr2, for example). The polygon count is under 10000 for the low-res and under 40000 for the high-res version.

The only problem when using Antonia with SubD is that I used some hard edges in the original geometry to prevent vertex drift. These cause problems in Poser, so that I had to remove them from the distributed OBJ files.

If you are interested, I can make a special SubD-ready version available. Antonia is under a Creative Commons attribution license, so you may get as silly as you like.

(I'm assuming when you say SubD you mean Catmull-Clark).

This should help those who find it all a bit confusing.

Older files that I've updated  will be deleted and the new ones will replace them.

And speaking od DPHoadley's V3 to AP remap, the image above  is a test render I did with one of my V3 sets on Antonia.

The horns and earrings were props I made for V3 and I fit them to Antonia for the test.

Okay, I'll upload the remap to the main site soon, probably tonight after work. It will be a separate download with different licensing. In particular, redistributing the contents of the OBJ files in modified or unmodified form will not be permitted.

That is so that if DAZ ever decide they have a problem with V3 remaps, I can easily pull it.

A new custom morph for Antonia. I posted her in the DAZ forums already, along with what I did to her, but not everyone goes there so I decided to post here as well. SaintFox was kind enough to post a trick for darkening the skin in Poser. The morph will be available this weekend sometime. Yes, thanks very much David. I probably have more V3 characters than for anyone else, and even more that I never got around to installing. Plenty to be going on with, in other words. This should help a great deal in getting Antonia on everyone's radar.

Let's get Antonia to the critical mass! No, not the point where she explodes and destroys her surroundings. :) I mean the point where she is sufficiently well supported to encourage others to do the same. I admit I have no idea where that is, but I have plans to convert my old clothing freebies, and I'll take the opportunity to improve them where possible. Les has already made a start by tackling Flo Hair for me.

I'm having a crisis of conscience over the the QuickSuit, so apologies for the delay in releasing it. For the way I use these things, one level of subdivision would be the only improvement I might make to Bob's mesh, but that seems like cheating. Other more subtle refinements would probably not become apparent until I'd actually made a few pieces with it.

Hopefully this will now allow people to tap into the still extant vast array of V3 skins for use with Antonia.

It has always been my vision to have all the Poser figures comply to ONE oveall standardized texture configuration, just as there is a standardized guage for all commercial RailRoads.  Thus that the same texture can be used on V3, V4, V2, Posette, and now Antonia.

A single place where to find (links to) all Antonia stuff sounds like a good idea. It would give the largest chance to get the 'critical mass', as Englishbob names it, or rather, to remain in the exact mode, the 'critical density'; mass concentrated in a small space.
