Subject: Displacement Edges?

I have a question about the edge of something when using a displacement map. Is there any way to get softer edges with nodes, or do you just have to graduate the greys like I have done above. I was trying for a softer edge rather than straight up & down.

No other chance than what you did allready.

But perhaps you may like to play with "Gain" and "Bias" nodes.
