Hey, all. Probably no one remembers me. I used to post here a little bit and had a marketplace with a boat and a motorcycle, however, life took a funny turn and I had almost no time to make stuff, or create things and seemingly I lost most of my inspiration. However, I have posted images in my gallery every so often when I found time. Lately I have nothing but time and sadly enough, none of my software. What happened was at Disney, oh yeah, I got a cool job as a decorator in the Magic Kingdom, where I have a bunch of fun! However, I fell off the stage and broke my leg and my rib. Disney is taking awesome care of me in the way of workers comp and my co-workers and management are awesome, stopping by, taking me to the Dr. appointments and all that, and I am in the home of my wonderful and beautiful girlfriend, who is the greatest. The only problem? My computer is large, bulky, and at my house, an hour from here. That's a little far to get to in a wheelchair or walker. I want to download some trial software, but I'm not sure if her pc can handle it, it's a nice pc, but she didn't buy with graphic design in mind, all it has is paint and I have very little talent with that. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a piece of software that's semi powerful, 2d or 3d, and not too demanding on a pc, I am looking for stuff, but let's face it, I am a hobbyist, you are professionals with more knowledge than I, so I want to hear what you all have to say. Thank you. I'll probably be posting more stuff in the forums and maybe some images if I can get to my stuff, or some new stuff while I'm here. Thanks again,

Free Powerful Software:

Daz Studio - you can probably run it with no problems and there are plenty of free figures out there to get you started.  You can get all the Daz base figs except for V4.2 and A4 for free right now.  (posette, V1, V2 Milkids/whatever not included in that I don't think , just V3, M3, A3, etc.. Plus, there are plenty of third party figures out there like Apollo if you're into figures/posing/creating clothing and items for them.)

Blender - Probably, the most powerful, free 3D modeling solution out there right now.  Very complex menus and submenus but a HUGE user base and gazillions of tutorials.  I can't say enough about how powerful Blender is and being FREE as well.  It's just got a steep learning curve.

GIMP - Free powerful painting program for all just about  your texturing needs.

Wings3D - A free, different and simpler 3D Modeller than Blender but definitely easier to play with.

Anim8tor - Another free 3D modeller, a little weird but easy to use and free.

POVRay - A freebie ray-trace rendering engine.  It's fairly easy to use.  AFAIK, you still have to export created scenes from DAZ Studio or Poser into a single wavefront object form (Not difficult).  But, it's pretty neat and you can achieve some decent effects with it.

With all of that plus hitting Renderosity &  DAZ3d freebie areas and forums along with a liberal session downloading from ShareCG, you should be quite well stocked for you long recovery!

Enjoy, have fun, get well soon and say "Hi" to Mickey for me!

Thanks for all your help, guys. I am going to check out all the progs and try different things. Another problem is that my lady, as lovely and wonderful as she is, is also a lover of AOL. AOL reminds me of the jealous abusive girlfriend who thinks if you're not hanging out with her, you can't have fun with anyone, so IE runs really slow. So I think that's what is clouding my judgement of how much this thing can handle. Anyway, I am going to give everything a look, thanks again.
