Subject: How to apply color (.blend)

Really new to Blender..Texture question:  I know how to load .blend files (materials) and how to find the one I want..BUT..Sorry to say, I can't figure out how to apply the color to the  mesh...Somebody mind showing a step by step for Dummies on how to select and apply..

You don't really apply colour to a mesh, you apply a material - press [F9] whilst your cursor is over the buttons window. Select the mesh you want colouring, then in the Link and Materials box where it has 1 Mat 1 click 'New', the click the coloured area to the left of the 1 Mat 1. A colour picker dialogue will come up. Use the eyedropper to select a colour.
Now your material has a colour. However, there are heaps more properties to this material than just colour... you really need to go to a Blender Basics forum to kinda get your head around all that... there's a length limit to what I can enter here...lol
