I've made this a Winter Haiku Challenge because I know there are people here, like me, who are not Christian. This does not restrict anyone from doing a Christmas/Holiday themed haiku. ;)   Have fun!

[This particular haiku is about The Massacre At Wounded Knee]

river runs through night
moon glistens through snowy mist
Owl heralds the fate

ice crystals on glass
small nose pressed on window pane
wonder of winter

Dark of night gathers
Owl hunts o're moonlit snows
Hare ducks underground

Thanks for the haiku challenge, netsia. I did a speech on Wounded Knee in high school (oh, so long ago). I think it was a real eye opener for most of the kids in the class. The teacher too, for that matter.

Hope we can get a little participation going here.

nice one jon....I don't think many know what happened at Wounded Knee. I just bought the DVD 'Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee', it's an HBO production. Movie made us cry, it was very well done. If you've never been there, it is an intense, Spirit filled place. Hopefully you will see it for yourself one day.

hhhmmm  participation, it'll be like 'back in the day'  :)

 Participation
Snowflakes gather, one by one
Snowball fights ensue

We can only hope. ~jon

Quiet chill decends
Life, always fragile, retreats
Yet hope does not die

A metaphor for the Writer's Forum.

suspended like icicle
will it ever thaw?
