Hey everyone!

Just letting you know that the official release of Blacksmith3D-Paint-Freeware version 3.1.1 is now available. After two years of painstaking labor, I am finally satisfied with (and very proud of) this product (and it's commercial counterpart of course) and I'm ready to promote it full steam.

With this software, you can import OBJ and CR2 files and directly paint textures on them. Although not all CR2 files are supported, most standard DAZ style models (single object, no replacement body parts, etc.) should import fine. Otherwise, export the OBJ from Poser, setup the textures, and you are good to go!

Auto-UV map any object with the click of a button. Have a background object that needs texturing? Don't spend hours stitching together UV seams just so you can paint it in Photoshop. Use the 'Paint Setup Wizard' to Auto-UV map the object with the click of a button, paint the texture, and move on with your project. Texturing 3D objects has never been easier!

Painting across UV seams is done with absolute ease. Until you zoom in really close, you can't even tell that they exist. In fact the whole philosophy behind this software is this...

For any 3D object, you should be able to click a single button to setup it's UV mapping and texture maps, and just start painting on it. The combination of Auto-UV mapping and the ability painting across seams has achieved this goal, and now, finally, - the artist - can 'just start painting'.

With this being a freeware version and all of that, there are of course features that are only available in the registered version. Most notably, the texture sizes are limited to 1024x1024 pixels, the Clone Brush, Blur, Smudge, etc. are not available and a few other things, but it is still a very powerful FREE paint application that I'm sure you can all use. There is a demo to the registered version (save disabled of course) if you want to try out the advanced features. I believe that this freeware version is a very useful tool in it's own right, without giving away too much (I do need to eat you know ;) )

Anyway, download the software. Enjoy it and make lots of cool stuff with it.
Konan (Dave)

p.s. For those of you who know me from the early days (I've been around the community since 1999), you may have noticed that I have been in hiding the past few years. Now that this software is complete (no doubt, there will still be updates, new features, etc.), you'll be seeing a lot more of me. The sleeper has awaken! (bonus points to the first person who gets the reference)

Mine is still showing as version 3.1.0.0 - the Blacksmith3D-Paint-Freeware.exe file is dated 15th November. Not sure what I did wrong there... Any advice?

Heya EnglishBob!

It would be best to simply remove 3.1.0.0 completely from your computer and uninstall/resintall 3.1.1.0 . Not sure what went wrong there (perhaps shortcuts are getting confused).

Please let me know if that helps,
Konan

That was it, thanks. :-)

I used Revo Uninstaller (excellent freeware, by the way) - it showed that I had two versions installed at once, rather than the new version updating the old. Probably because my installation was non-standard, involving a portable disk and a lot of moving stuff about that I won't go into unless you really want to know. :) I uninstalled both versions to be on the safe side, reinstalled, and now all is well.

Thanks again!
