I have about 10 hours into the project so far (it's actually my second day working on it). 422 parts at the moment. I'm about out of stuff to model and will move on to adding details using bump channels.
This was done 100% in Carrara. I sure hope I finish this one. I had a grea start on the Privateer centurion but never found the time to finish it.

How did you create those panels?

Ya. Tell us that you did it procedurally. Just kidding. But did you?

Unfotunately I did not make the panels procedurally. It took me about three hours to paint the paneling in Paint Shop Pro (while watching the Dirty Jobs marathon). If you look carefully, you can see the approximately 500 small squares I placed on the longitudenal and latitudenal lines (placed and rotated YEEK).
There is no procedural I have found to generate uniform thick lines and uniform panel sizes in a panel pattern in a circular setup. All the ones I've seen get distorted somehow.
If such a beasty existed, I could have done the little squares as well using some creative mixers I'm sure. Some of the patterns in the advance pack that was sold be Eovia might have been able to do it but the advance pack was not offered as a free upgrade when Carrara was upgraded to 6 (in fact, I'm not even sure if the advance pack is available at all anymore).
It's unfortunate too because the primivols and some of the gradient manipulators were really great. I'm not in the mood to pay for plug-ins again when C gets upgraded every time (Gigantic Kudos to the most amazingly awesome and fantastic Eric Winemiller of Digital Carvers Guild!!!!! who does update plugins for free when C gets updated!).

I've posted my latest in the gallery. I would say I'm about 90% done for modeling. Now it's texturing and I suck at texturing.

Kixum,
The advance pack has continued to be updated. You need to go to inagoni's site not DAZ's. They are current w/ some improvements. C7 isn't quite ready yet.
No need to think outside the box....

invisible.

Anyway, to fill in some time I rendered (in Carrara7Pro) this Castle I made in MoI---if of interest.

Today is the last day of the holiday. I spent all day rendering my final image for printing. I posted an image that's close in the gallery and I'm really glad it all came out nice. One of the nicer renders that I've generated.
I've already started a render on the platform at Bespin but I'm not really sure if I'll do that. It's a big pain making all those buildings.
Happy end if all the holidays to everyone! It was a good break and paid off big after all!

Happy New Year
It's great that you are still keeping in touch with the forum.
It's so dissapointing that so many still don't realise that Carrara is not only not a new programme but has led the way in progress from the Poser/Bryce connection of old.
Carl Desmond (3DExtract) is still around and says Hi to his many friends.
