"Symmetry at Sea" Went down to the beach on Tuesday afternoon to watch the "125 Dingy" Championships. The wind was howling just off shore & these poor dudes broke their centerboard as did a few others. When I saw them paddleing in I knew I just had to offer this image as my 2nd for the month.

JeffG7BRJ posted Thu, 08 January 2009 at 5:49 AM

There is a story with this image, I went to the supermarket last week and bought 6 large free range eggs,  I went to make an omelette with two of them and this was the result.  Two eggs four yolks, what we term as a 'Double Yolker'  when I was a child we used to have our own pens and raise chickens and on occasion a double yolker would come out of the coop.  Out of the six eggs I bough, five of them were double yolks.  The first time I have come across so many at the same time.

Anyhow this is my try, unfortunately one of the yolks burst as you can see, but I thought it still fit the theme.

Spotted during a canal outing.
The owner of this boat house was making creative use of the reflection of the water.
My task was to capture it before our passing boat caused ripples in the water.
This was my 3rd attempt...I am just glad the water level was still at the perfect height.

I'm always astounded by that every day. If not near each other, I've found nearly the same shot by two people in different countries on the same day. It's one of my inspirations... to shoot something in a unique way because I think everything under the sun has been done at least twice so that means I have to shoot the same subject in a way no one else has. I don't  quite have the hang of it yet, but I'm working on it. LOL

?????

It's astonishing.

And then there's the whole David Bowie thing.  That's eerie, RJ!  I'm sure loads of people have a different thing that pops into their head when they see the word "Changes."  It can't possibly trigger the humming of a thirty-seven-year-old song in everyone!!

Well then... I have gone through the State Capitol tour office to the CA Highway Patrol permitting office and finally talked with the people at the Joint Rules Committee and its okay to post this and anything else I shoot - art included - under the capitol roof. :-)  Glad to get that out of the way.

Soooooooooooooooooo, my last entry into the challenge... a pano of the capitol message boxes for people who pay to have all their legislation bundled each day and put in one place for pick up (that's me). The space between the boxes and the wall is only 5 feet, so, taking the series of shots for the pano was tricky, and the length of the room is about 30 feet or so long, which really cocked the perspective - but I like it for its mundane-ness :-)

I love what's been added since my last visit here. Up, up and away!

There is so much there that fascinates me - not from a historical aspect, although that seems to be their big draw around there, but from a design aspect. symmetry is everywhere and the actual construction is precise so as to obtain the same effect no matter where you go inside. And outside.

Ahhh... I read about symmetry in recipes, Bowie's music and a number of other educational things. So let me add some:

What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
(William Blake)

I chase an image, overcome
by your last image of mystery;
everything has a cruel symmetry.
(Jason Paul Fox) (only for the brave at heart to follow the link!)

You better hurry up with the new challenge Shari or we start our own. I dedicate this image to you Shari, thank you for offering us the chance to broaden our scope. :thumbupboth:

Shari, I agree. Regardless of the challenge of the month...these challenges have a way of improving both the eyesight and the interest regarding the way we look at both new and old things. The challenges keep us green and growing instead of simply becoming older and moldier in our approach to our photography.

Thanks and keep up the great work!

I've generally avoided symmetry like the plague, preferring the off-center crop, the excitement and tension of asymmetry.   This challenge was ... well ... challenging (!) but I enjoyed it very much!  It's good to look at things in a different way.

Can't wait for February's theme!  :)

Hey Shari - when you've got February's up and running, how 'bout putting a link here on the January challenge page?  That way we'll all get an e-mail notification of the next month's challenge.  It's a way to keep people on a roll.  Having a new thread every month means we (at least I) forget to look for it for a few days!  Just a thought.  :)
