Has anyone created an image in Vue that is grayscale? I have turned Vue images into grayscale ones in Photoshop, which is not a problem since colors can be manipulated by themselves. What I am wondering is has anyone converted colored materials into grayscale using the colored material as the base? I don't want to create grayscale materials by themselves. Is there anyway to do a convert to grayscale per material?

wont be long now =D a series of 5 screenshots showing you exactly how, and 1 final rendered image (preview mode) to show you that it is, indeed, grayscaled now. =D
now to get them so they'll show up on here...
i'll get this all figured out here =D

I saw a render int he gallery a few weeks ago that looked like a b/w sketch and the notes said 'all done in Vue'. I think it made POD at e-on too but I can't remember who did it

1) Collapse any truely identical materials ... saves headaches. In this one, i collapsed parts of Daz's beanstalk, and worked only on the "stalk". Open the material you wish to edit.

Btw, that works great for individual items...
but what if you want the WHOLE image grayscale?
editting all those materials.... what a PITA???!!
there is actually a preset atmosphere in Vue that uses post render options to change your image to a Black & White (i.e., grayscale) image You can find it under "effects - others"
you can always start with that, too, and play around and see exactly what they did... oh i see... post processing, color correction, and saturation is set to (minus) -100%
(thanks, gill!!! i was curious which one you were talkin about... wanted to see it!)

Thank you both soooooooooooo much. I had no idea there were that many ways. I never thought of the post production since I never use it. I need to play with them all now and find a combination to use. The function editor, tho a pain, might be the way to go for controlling color and how the different colors relate to each other as grayscale. etc.
melikia posted Sat, 03 January 2009 at 12:35 PM
yep, theres always more than one way to de-fur a feline ;)
or in this case... de-colorize an image LOL
and you are very welcome, Paula =D
if i want complete control over my materials and how they interact, i go to the function editor/material editor.
i think a nice combination of the post-processing & material/function editor will do what you want very well indeed. and i, too, tend to forget about those post-production options LOL.
*grins at Gill - you mean i actually knew something about Vue you didn't? i am IN SHOCK lol.
j/k ;) but it did put a big ol' grin on my face and reminded me - even gurus are still learning new things =D

Well I quite like cartoonizing renders in Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop ;)
This greysccale one, I'm blowed if I can recal the EXACT steps I took to get the effect, cause it turned out very nice, IMHO.

very nice. I have to say I prefer to do the greyscale conversion in PS (only because that's how I'm used to doing it with photos  ) but some useful tips there

The conversions are really interesting. All are so different. IRhanks Gill for sharing the one you did in Painter. It has an oriental feel to it. Here is one that I did a while back using Vue 6 I and converting it layer by layer in Photoshop since I used multipass rendering.melikia posted Mon, 05 January 2009 at 3:19 PM
BEAUTIFUL, Paula! it sure does look like a B&W photo... that had a bit of work in the darkroom to prouce such excellent contrast =D

Thanks Melikia -After doing it, I wrote a tutorial: http://www.perpetualvisions.com/new-articles/zone-system/zone-system.html. We had a wonderful 5 months long exhibit of a private collection of incredible Ansel Adams' work at the Gilcrease Museum. It was over 140 original prints produced by him. That's what inspired me and seeing it again before it closed is what got me back thinking Vue and black and white images.

Hello
I have a small question, in the scene "Mustang" (the scene where there are all the planes in the sky with a Fw190 burning and smoking and a P-51 Mustang) available with Vue6, the render is in black and white how can i do to render it in color?
silverblade33 posted Wed, 07 January 2009 at 7:55 AM
change the camera settings, the Post Preocessing is set to have -100 Saturation, that removes ALL the colour form an image, same as with Photoshop
turn the saturation up to 0 or whatever you wish ;)
