OK, I'm wanting to learn how to create textures and clothing for poser, first to give away for free, then later, when I'm better, to hopefully sell. I have a question about the legal aspect of this - what am I allowed to do, or not allowed to do? For instance, I have the merchant skin resources for V4, and I'm pretty good at painting skin, so I'll probably use my painting skills and the templates there to create hand-painted textures, but what's the legal rules about creating textures and selling for the MFD, for example? I know it's possible, as I've seen people selling textures here for clothing Daz has brought out. Is it OK, can i just go straight for it?

You need to make sure you do not include any files from the original product, and that any resources you use are ok for this type of project. Other than that you are good to go :)

Creating your OWN textures and selling (or giving away) them for someone elses product is 100% legit. The only real restriction is you can't include use or any of the material that came with the product.
Using resources kits as a base for your work is also OK. Though you MUST credit the kit in your readme and some kits (rarely) have restrictions about much much of the original kit can be used.
BTW - starting with freebie creation is a really good idea - it lets artists see how good your work, and you'll make many new friends. Artists love it when someone makes a nex texture set for their mesh!

Thanks, you two! Ah, that's cleared things up for me. MrSparky - great idea, and I think I might start that this afternoon.... ;)
