Hi All.
Looking for a poseable muzzle for either/or the MilDogs or the old P4 dog.
Prefer a prop with morphs so I can adapt it to either dog or the Lynn Breeds for the P4 dog.
Anyone know of one somewhere in the community or feels like tackling making one please let me know. Thanks!
TrekkieGrrrl posted Thu, 29 January 2009 at 10:50 AM
Hm I think it's easier to make if it's for one specific dog rather than for a whole bunch of them. The muzzle itself is easy enough, I could make that for you in 5 minutes, but the straps are more bothersome if they need to fit several different dogs...

Hey T-Girl!
Long time no hear from you here. Glad to see you are still contributing to the community.
I guess what is happening is I am stuck working with the Lynn dogs for P4 and am also in P4 due to lack of resources. But I have ALL the Mill Animals complete and If I can get my butt in gear here I will be migrating to a more powerful system running a newer OS so I can work with the higher res characters. But for now I need the Muzzle for the older dogs.
I was hoping it could be made as a smart prop with several parts with separate morph/fit dials so it can be migrated to the newer dogs. Even if it were to work with the older dogs exclusively I use all Lynn's older breeds from the P4 dog so it would have to be adjustable for them as well.
Since it is only for the head I thought it would be easier to do that than making it a version specific conform figure.

shante, Here is a suggestion. if trekkiegrrl would make you a generic muzzle for both the P4 dog and the Mil dog you might try using the Morphing clothes utility to transfer the breeds into them. It should be fairly easy with the mil dog since everything is there to begin with. For the P4 dogs you probably would have to load the breed morph and save the new breed before trying to transfer. Tedious.
I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

Hm.. I''m not familiar with the Morphing Clothes utilty. I assume you mean the one from Dimension3D? I don't know if it would work for a prop, and I had planned to make it a prop rather than a conforming thing (it's just so much easier than conformers...)
Let me see if I can do something that fits the old Poser dog. Then you can see if it's wort messing more with :)
Might not be until tomorrow though, I've got the rest of this evening pretty much filled with things I HAVE to do. But I'll give it a try :) I can see it in my mind and that's always a good thing GG
(oh and yeah I've been away from Poser for far too long. It's GOOD to be back!)

Yes, the Morphing Clothes is from Dimension3D. I just took a look at the interface and it doesn't look like it works on props, darn :(

Thanks TrekkieGrrl! Glad to have you back and look forward to seeing what you do with this. I too prefer props to conforming figures wherever possible. It kills me when I see hair as conforming props and you can't use it on anything but what it is supposed to conform to. And I especially hate seeing it done that way when it isn't necessary like in the case of a slip-on pump when it would be so much easier and versatile as a smart prop.
So I both applaud you for your choice and for trying this. Thanks!
Nickedshield!
Thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately I am on a Mac and many of the apps available to the community overall are just not available to me or if they are I would need to invest in a more powerful system to use them on. But thanks for the ideas and response.
nickedshield posted Thu, 29 January 2009 at 6:26 PM
On a Mac, darn. I'll make a note to myself so I don't lead you to more PC apps that won't help. As far as conforming hair, it can be scaled to fit then parented to the head so all is not lost.
I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

No need to memorize my nightmare. Bad enough I gotta live it. LOL
Besides it gives me a closer look at what is new out there in case...yeah right!...I decide to abandon my gorgeous platform for something more.....uhm!?.....useable? :)
Yeha you would think. But let me give you an example of when that does NOT work/.
Say you got a long hair style that as a conformer allows you to push the hair back off the back to make it appear wind blown.
If it is conformed it works fine the way it is supposed.
But if parented to the head and you want to make the hair fly back by selecting the tips of the mesh hair for example and giving it a bend back the tip stays put but the crown of the head moves either forward or backward off the head needing to refit. It really is a royal pain in the....well....since I use my hands on the mouse I will keep it clean but you know where the pain lies! ;)
TrekkieGrrrl posted Fri, 30 January 2009 at 6:26 AM
Question:
How realistic do you need it? I'm thinking of things like buckles and stuff. I have the basic model made now but I need to know if something like buckles and rivets ect is really necessary.. coz I really suck at modelling buckles. For some reason they always come out strange L
So I won't spend a lot of time on it if it doesn't really matter. Of course if it's for closeups I guess you will need them...
(the splotches along the rim are some inverted normals I need to fix :) )

That looks pretty good. If you think nylon you won't need a lot of rivets just a buckle.

TrekkieGrrrl posted Fri, 30 January 2009 at 11:34 AM
"just a buckle" ;) I suck at buckles...
I agree there whould be at least one here though. I just need to figure out HOW to make it. Perhaps one of the snap click types? If I can make that in Hexagon.. Some things, like the muzzle itself is easy in Hex, but more rigid parts are IMO harder to do..
Gotta see what I can do :)
Unless Shante doesnt care ;)

Sorry dear I didn't reply sooner. Lost a sheit load of DAZ Buys when I accidentally threw the BURN TO CD fofolder away during a very late night operations session. Never...ever...work late at night...on ANYTHING CRITICAL. Too tired to keep track of what the dead cells of the slowly dieing brain do to get you in trouble.
So now I gotta spend more man hours trying to figure out what was lost to DL them from my accounts at DAZ and here as well all over again. If it were just the question of that it would be easier. But I am so damn retentive I include a text version of my invoice for future viewing as well as ALL the thumbnails for later to remind me what the frell is in the order for EVERY Order downlioaded.
Killing me.
The muzzle overall looks great. Is the part that goes over the dogs snout morphable or adjustable by itself? If so it would be great. That could be one way of adapting it to all the breeds as well as perhaps the MilDogs. Is the uinit UV Mapped? If so I can texture stitching and such on it later. One buckle would be needed and I see as I write this in the second image you got it. Superb dear. Thanks so very very much!
BTW what do is the second dog the muzzle is on?
Also, where is your site?
TrekkieGrrrl posted Sat, 31 January 2009 at 8:16 PM
The second dog is still the Poser 4 dog just with it ears made shorter.
My site is in my footer, or here: http://trekkiegrrrl.dk :) It's also in free stuff here now
And no there are no morphs on it at the moment, since I didn't know which breeds you needed it for. So I just went with a very genereic one. You can always - if you've got P7 - use the morph putty tool to adjust it :)
Hope you get your stuff back together. :)

Unfortunately I can only work in P4. I have all versions of Poser but can't use them on the old box I am forced to work on. Two years w/o a job now and way too many problems trying to upgrade a newer computer I might be able to run P6 on to make it happen.....yet!
I have been using Poser4 for 8 years or so and after all that time still do not know half of the functions on the app. Especially would love to wrap my dud-head around the damn magnets but alas.
I guess the only morphs that would be appropriate that don't mess with the head straps, are the length and width since it isn't a conformer and fits somewhat loosely it wouldn't be a problem if it can be done otherwise it's cool. I thank you again for this dear and am off to DL.
BTW Love the dog. Do you have a character MT for it? The legs are shorter and the feet seem smaller. It looks like a dog instead of that excuse of a dog that came with P4!! :(
shante posted Sat, 31 January 2009 at 11:03 PM
Hey again.
Went to your site and got the muzzle so thanks again.
I also saw some cool items I tried to DL as well. One of them was the summer dress and shoes for the original MilPT girl. Couldn't get it. Is that item no longer available to dl or is it just a bad link?
TrekkieGrrrl posted Sun, 01 February 2009 at 11:11 AM
Hm I'll check the link for the dresses. Thanks for alerting me. I need to do a major housecleaning on my site - making sure that all links actually work. It's just a tedious work L
The dog is just the P4 dog. All I did was scale its ears down. And bend its legs a little more (essesntially just lowering the chest and hip since it has IK on for all four legs) - so, except for the ears,it's the same doggie :)

TG, If you get a chance could you fit the muzzle to the MilDog? The idea I was thinking about using the Morphclothes utility sort of kind of did something on the P4 muzzle after I made it a figure. It is the way you made the head strap that makes it hard for me to convert the muzzle to the mildog. No hurry, I'm just experimenting to see if my idea was valid.
I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.
TrekkieGrrrl posted Sun, 01 February 2009 at 1:13 PM
As soon as I get some time, I'll see what I can do in regards to fitting it to other dogs :) I quite like how it turned out and it would be a shame if it wasnt usable just because it was for that old mutt ;)

That would be much appreciated. So far I got it to fit the P4 Bloodhound, sort of. the jowls are fun (sarcastic tone used). It could use some more delicate use of magnets to make it fit better. delicate I haven't quite mastered.

Oh I like that . Yes, I would love to also have this. Will it work in older versions of Poser 4/5/6 or does it require only the newer v.7?
As far as texturing: if it is UV Mapped and has mapping zones for straps and muzzle as separate parts to allow separate texture commands it would be great. That way you can simply assign generic textures to the individual zones w/o having to texture it for every image you need something different for. Did I explain myself right? :(
nickedshield posted Mon, 02 February 2009 at 9:51 AM
I set it up using the old ppp so you should have no issue. Texture zones are for the muzzle, straps, top strap and buckle. I'm checking the functionality of the morphs from the MatMor pose set for the mildog and some don't work without scaling. File size is BIG, 22MB, probably caused by all of the morphs. Since this is TG's mesh I want her to look it over and have her release it if it is acceptable. Hope you understand.
