Perhaps I'm getting to "into" this, but I have looked all over for some decent material settings for hair. Specifically to make mesh-based hair look shiny and silky. I'm suprised at how many of the textures for hair have no specularity settings at all, I guess the painted on highlights are what most use, without the material room at all.
I recently purchased Sarah Hair by Littlefox, and I simply adore the hair, but the material poses are simply color and transparency. There is even a bump map in the textures folder that isn't plugged in at all.
Ok, so would anyone like to share any secrets they have for taking a basic set of color/transparency/bump maps and plugging them into Poser 7's shader tree to make hair look realistic and shiny? I'll try and put something together, too, but I'm still a little shakey in the material room.
I understand the need for the specularity settings in lights to get the right look, but any tips there would be helpful as well.
Or does mesh-based hair really need painted in highlights?
Thank you.
Indi.

That is a great explanation, and pretty much exactly what I was looking for. (Shiny black hair even!)
Thanks for pointing me to it.
