Captured this late afternoon this past Saturday at Historic Smithville Park (New Jersey)
I had just parked my car and started walking on the nature trail. Saw the heron pacing and then get in its STRIKE stance...was locked in on something and then WHAM!
12 shots here that I combined in CS3 to make this animation
Sony A700 - SAL 70-300 G @300mm (ISO200; F8; 1/800 exposure)

A very beautiful animation. So excellently done.
I did almost the same with a woodpecker in the summer. But far from so elegant as this one, because I didnt have my camera on a tripod and took all the shots with my arms up and from my patio, so it was hard work to make it look natural. :-) But fun.
