hi !
in my old drawer, i find out Carrara 3D Basic 2.
I wish to know the main difference between carrara 7 ?
I'm a Poser7 user, i'm frustrated by its render engine. So i plan to acquire Carrara knowledge.
i'm wonder if my carrara release is very too old to begin learning Carrara or if i should bought another version, a lite one ?
In the matrice product http://www.daz3d.com/i/software/carrara/comparison?_m=d , i don't see my carrara version !
should you help me ?
my first questions are :
does my version use multi core ?
does it can use Poser7 model ?
thank for helping me.

What you mean Poser7 model?
The basic version can import in a poor way Poser content... you need the new version 7 to get to work better with Poser content. To import Poser 7 scenes its another story, you will need a plugin that I think only work with Std and Pro version (I really dont know). With Carrara you will have a more faster render engine for shure.

Well, there is no real "Lite Version" anymore. There is Standard and Pro. But as for using Poser content in Carrara; You either have to get a plugin or (highly recommeded) get one of the newer versions of Carrara. I would recommend Carrara 7 Pro if it's in your budget.
In the newer versions of Carrara you can pull in Poser content into Carrara just like any other content, from the content browser. It's easier, faster, less hassle, and generally the best way to do it. You can still use the "Import" function to bring in a full poser scene (.pz3). It usually doesn't matter what version of Poser the item being brought into Carrara was designed for. I hope this helped.

Looks that we will have another version of Express this month:

I use P7 content all the time with Carrara. I started out with poser and was always so unhappy with the render quality. The default settings in Carrara are better than the finest tweaking in poser.
Using poser content in carrara definitely goes more smoothly in the latest version (C7). None of us can really say about the new version of Carrara express, which is much cheaper, but is not released yet.
Remember: DAZ has a trial download and 30 day return policy, so you can give it a try.

GK,
Are you talking about Transposer for Carrara7?
Transposer only works with Poser 6, isn't it?

As a note of interest, Transposer does not work with/recognize Poser Pro. This is because it looks for a poser.exe and won't accept the poserpro.exe.
(Not that it matters to me, I have every version since 5, but it is worth noting to newwer users.)

Maybe its something to post to the |Carrara Bugtrack:
I dont know if transposer really use the POser to import, so try a dummy poser.exe file like they did for DazStudio.
