Hi all,

I haven't been on here for ages, and I've missed it. I have a question about something I learned to do ages ago and can't remember how to do it now. I took a Bryce class in the past and one of the things we learned was how to make boxes that looked like houses from a distance. They were low poly and you could put lights in or near them for night scenes. I have been trying to figure out how to do it but haven't had much luck. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Moonbow

A simple answer would be to use a 2 cubes. Place one on the ground plane, rotate the 2nd by 45degrees and place it on top of the first, lowering it until it looks like a regular roof.

Or, you could use a terrain. Find a photo of a distant houses, and use just the houses as a height map. If you make the windows in each house that you wish to see light, black, and then place a light source at the back.

Wow, I took a Bryce class too a long time ago and yeah I remember being taught that as well, but for the life of me I can't remember it. If I find it in the darkest depths of my pc, I'll let ya know.

Attached Link: City Generator

Might try this free (PC only) app by Ben Tibbetts that creates "city" image maps to load into the Bryce Terrain editor.

If you can use flat-topped houses, make a terrain (the default one will work), then while holding down the ALT key, roll your mouse over the POSTERIZE marble until you get a grid pattern that you like.  Render away!

That looks great! Thank you. I'm trying to make individual houses though...but that looks great!
