Hello Everyone,
Can anyone recommend any great cartoon shaders for Poser 7? My ultimate goal is to be able to cartoon any of my Poser figures or props... Any information will be appreciated.
Thanks

poser 7 and later have tools to do cartoons using at least 6 techniques, but first it's necessary to define what one means by a cartoon image, whether it uses line-work, etc. I have to admit I'm very disappointed to see that poser users have failed to understand the basic fall-off shader technique that pro inkers use to visualise where the lines go and how thick they need to be. what poser users usually do is just a default poser 4 nostril-glow render or default firefly render, then add speech balloons and refer to the result as a cartoon, which isn't satisfactory IMVHO.

Thanks for your insight... I am an aspiring web designer with limited artistic/drawing ability, I can generally do anything computer or graphically oriented. I can sketch and draw, but I want to achieve a more realistic feature effect as well. My goal is to achieve a cartoon/anime type effect with my Poser characters and props. Not sure how else to put it. Here is a website you can check out which describes the kind of cartoon effect I am shooting for. www.storybooksites.com... I want to replicate this kind of image using my Poser models with skin tones etc... Someone recommended some cartoon shaders for Poser, but I have been unable to locate any. Thank you for your help.

You can get fairly close to that effect by simply flattening the models. Here's a random sample using a scene I happen to be working on right now. These models are toonish to begin with, of course, which helps.
The flattening is done by the Python script at the link.

Thanks for all the great information!!! I have another question... Does anyone know if the Poser models and props can be used in Manga Studio EX? This seems like a great way to achieve the cartoon effects, if the Poser models will work? I know that you can import and edit both 2D and 3D objects... Thanks again!

This is a simple poser toon render. No Z tooning, no nostil glow, no sketch, but I did render using the firefly renderer.

Manga studio can do that kind of stuff and story boarding and baloons.
It really is up to you on what you want and need and try the demos of both apps before you spend money. but you only have a few days left for the sale. not to rush you or anything.

Thank you all for the great info... So in essence, Anime Studio can import and read obj. (Poser Model) files. So, I can load Poser models into Anime Studio and create toon renders this way? If this is the case, seems like a much easier process. Does the finished work need to be exported back into Poser 7 in order to render using the firefly renderer? I know that Olivier has some great toon shaders that will work on any 3D mesh on the RDNA website. I am assuming these would also be a possibility should I not opt to purchase the additional software apps... So many choices. Thanks for your help

My first image is done only in poser and using the toon shading that is already in poser. It is a pure poser render. I don't have any of Olivers shaders, I can't comment on them.
My second image is an Anime Studio pro image. Rendered in Anime Studio. Yes it imports .obj, or the pro version does. you still need to shade it and then render it in Anime studio. But, this image It is a vert line drawn image using the AnimeStudio shaders. You can import images and convert them to vert lines and shade those, Just like Manga studio can. Or pen your own.
But from your last post, I don't think animeStudio is what you want. You want to do it in Poser. So you have a couple of choices. Learn how to use the poser toon shaders, Like I did. or you can buy Olivers expensive toon shaders.
You might even want to consider going over to DazStudio. It's free. And it's toon renderer is quite good. Then if you like that, you could buy the sketch shader plug-ins. Cheeper than buying the ones for poser. Right now Daz has the MM sale and they have a coupon for 20% off on most purchases.
But I really stand by the try the demos first before you buy any software. You need to make sure you find what software does what you want and it fits your way of thinking. This goes for any software.

I have some toon shaders here in the market place.

They're even on sale now.
I think that might be more what you're looking for. Also, the pages that you listed for examples use non-realistic figures.
I'd look for some of the toon figures as well.
Let me know if this helps, if not, I may be able to help you modify my shaders in a way that would really work for you.

Attached is an non-postworked render (except for my signature) using the art materials Vol2 pack.

Sadly EricJ there are no files in the freebie area of RDNA. i think this is because of the updated site, so we will have to wait until they are back on there, lol
Getting old and still making "art" without soiling myself, now that's success.

The shaders EricJ is using are found in the store at RDNA, they're not freebies.
There are also toon materials included in Poser 6 and 7 in the material room in the Sixus1 folder.
