Hi all!
I`m having a issue importing .obj with textures from Cinema4D to Poser 7.
The mesh at few parts is damaged.
I`ve tried every options on the import window of poser still did not improved the mesh or solid.
Is there any plug-in for importing objects to Poser7?
Does anyone Knows the solution to this issue?
Thanks for your time
Best regards

You may have reversed normals on some of the faces, which gives Poser indigestion. On import, there's an option labeled "Make polygon normals consistent" that may help.

Hi CaptainJack1
Thanks for reply.
No that´s not it, Ive found a way to work it on the base modeling program. basically it
s a compatibility issue from Poser regarding the mesh. in other words the obj opens well in cinema4d but in poser there is a little damage.
But its fine now I
ve just found a way to work it out.
**I would like to know if there is a plugin for importing objects to Poser? ****
Just to maximize the compatibility!
Thanks for your time

There are no import plugins.
there are some things known to be interpreted wrongly in poser, mostly to do with ngons , holes or concave edges.

I don't know if it will help with your issue but you might try the free Riptide plugin for C4P if you aren't using it. It was specifically designed for exporting/importing .objs to/from Poser.

Hi markschum and Imckenzie
Thanks for the help here.
Markschum, yes poser do interpret wrongly some ngons, I guess the only way is to help him a little and be patient about it! And things will work.
Imckenzie, thanks for pointing me that plugin Ive tried and it is a lot better than the normal import export of cinema4d! It did not resolve this particular issue but it improved a lot the performance. It
s just a peaty that it isn`t free anymore.
Thanks again Imckenzie.

Here's the free version of Riptide.whitemagus posted Thu, 26 March 2009 at 6:05 AM
Hi EnglishBob
Thanks for the reply.
But the site you just point me is the same that I went before, and now there is only a RiptidePro version, and two options demo for 30 days or purchase!
The Riptide free version its not there anymore! And it
s a shame to me. And I would prefer the free version.
Thanks anyway EnglishBob

Riptide Pro requires C4D 9.6 or later, but the free version requires 9.1 or later - I take that to mean that it will be ok on all later versions. If not, I apologise for the misdirection.whitemagus posted Thu, 26 March 2009 at 7:02 AM
Hi EnglishBob
Thanks for the reply.
You are absolutely right EnglishBob!
I did download two versions since I have c4d r10 the 9.6 and the 10, but the 9.1 and above are free.
Ive installed and it
s fine!
Thanks for the tip EnglishBob, you been most helpful.

ps. "9.1 and above "
correction -9.1 and lower

Cool. :-)
To follow through - I suggest you export from Cinema using the Riptide settings on Spanki's page, except that you can un-check the "export normals" option since Poser ignores normals. Then we can address whatever problems remain much more easily if you post a picture. A screenshot from Poser with the display mode set to "lined" would probably be most helpful.

It looks like reversed normals to me - in other words, the facets which are coming out dark are facing the other way. You could try checking the normals forward option in the material room for the object. If that renders properly, you can fix it permanently by selecting the offending facets using the grouping tool and reversing the normals - or you can do it in C4D if you prefer.

Hi EnglishBob
It worked I`ve checked the normal’s forward and it rendered clean!
It also worked selecting the offending facets using the grouping tool!
Thanks a lot EnglishBob you have been most helpful!

Hi guys...
It looks like you got things sorted out, but my recommendation is to double-check your work (and fix it) in C4D before you export it. This way, your source .c4d project file will be fixed for any future changes (instead of fixing it in the target app, each time you export a new file).
Checking normals is easy and should always be done before exporting. You can simply enable the Display menu "Backface Culling" option and rotate your model around to make sure everything looks right. If you see faces that are flipped, disable the option, select the face(s) in question and right-click-menu "Reverse Normals".
When/if you are building polygons by clickin on vertices one at a time with the "Create Polygon" tool, if you click around in a "clockwise" direction, the resulting polygon will be facing the camera. If you click around in a "counter-clockwise" direction, the resulting polygon will be facing away from the camera (ie. probably end up facing the wrong way, unless you intended to do that).
Finally, yes.. as you've already figured out, the plugins on my site are found in categories that are set up by "miminum version of C4D needed to use this plugin". Setting it up this way made sense (to me, at least) at the time, but a lot of people have trouble figuring it out. I may switch things around when I get some free time.
Cheers,
Keith

Hi keith
Thanks for the tips in cinema4d, I will do that from now on!
The thing in this particular model was that was done initially in autocad since it was architecture.
So the primary issue comes from autocad importing, but in cinema4d was OK, only in poser I could see the “normals” problem! But now I can fixed in any program in autocad since Ive discovered the resolution, In cinema 4d Thanks to keith and EnglishBob, and in poser Thanks to EnglishBob. I
m very pleased to the way things worked out!
And since you are here a special thanks to you Keith for the riptide plugin!
It`s great and free, thank god!
Now, for your note keith you should mark witch versions are free, so the person can know, because the way it is right now it seems like one of those marketing scams, just to trick you to buy. And in reality it`s not!
Thanks to you all

Thanks for the comments. Just to clarify:
"Riptide" = free (I sometimes refer to this as "Riptide Classic" now).
"Riptide Pro" = the commercial one, that requires a purchase (but has a 30-day free trial period).
....for Riptide, there are older versions that can work with Cinema 4D starting back with R7.3 and the most recent one works with R9.1 or later.
For Riptide Pro, support starts with C4D R9.6 or later, but there is also a build for R10.1 or later which adds support for C4D "Layers" (which was added in R10.1).
