Subject: Please help: cloth simulation fail message

I modelled a simple v-neck top for the G2 females using blender. I created material groups and exported it to an obj file. Poser did not see the material groups. So I tried exporting it to a 3ds file, and then the groups came in perfectly.

I loaded Olivia and the garment, positioned and scaled the garment, parented it to Olivia's hip, and entered the cloth room. I created a new simulation, clothified the top, set Olivia as the collision object, put a relaxed standing pose at frame 20, and calculated the simulation. All dynamic settings are at the defaults. The top does not intersect Olivia anywhere.

I get a message that it is calculating dynamics, and the almost immediately a message that "simulation failed at frame 0". I can't seem to get around this.

I would be so grateful for any help.

You must save as prop first, then bring it into the scene a second time as a prop.  Then set up your simulation and run it.

To fix any further troubles, export the item as an OBJ after saving it as a prop.  The re-import it, and save as another prop.  Use the second prop for the simulation.

Poser is a bit of a fussy-wuss about these things.

Thank you very much. I am going to try that right now.

Unfortunately that does not work. I am beginning to wonder if there is something wrong with my mesh, but I have no idea what to look for. The mesh has no folds and doesn't touch itself anywhere. I fixed two little holes but that did not solve the problem either. I am at a loss - I may have to start over....

sorry to hear of it... please keep us posted if you do find the source of the problem, so we may learn from your experience.

thanks !

try running the cloth itself in a simulation , that will test the cloth integrity, show unwelded parts as they fall off :)  and so on. It should not take very long with no collisions. If that fails there is a mesh problem to fix.
