With CS3, I could create a new file with specific dimensions, such as 450x550, 167dpi, 16 bit Grayscale.
I would have a RGB color 8-bit (or whatever), 72dpi image that could be dragged onto the Grayscale window and I would get the option to convert it. When I would select "yes" or whatever the command was, the file would appear as grayscale and I could continue working with it in the new format.
With CS4, when I create the same grayscale window and drag an RGB image onto it, the grayscale window changes to an RGB window and expands the canvas to fit. So if I create the CS4 grayscale window with pixel dimensions of 450x550 and drag a color RGB image that is 2500x3300 onto it, my original window settings are lost and the image remains unchanged.
I would prefer CS4 to work in the way I was used to CS3 working in this respect. I've looked through the preferences commands and have not found a command to turn this function off... is there one?
Thanks
