Dont think I would crop but like to here other peoples suggestions
helanker posted Thu, 23 April 2009 at 10:03 AM
Maybe that is because it needs no cropping. It is Gorgeous just as it is. In my opinion, no crop.

thanks for that, I did have a little play with a narrow crop and also a square one.. I think eventually yes I will crop out a bit of the upper sky, not sure how much, but I think I want to leave the whole of the reflected rock within the frame. cheers for all replies so far

Hmm, that's pretty much what camera did :-P hahaha

I like the balance to this one better, with the split between sky and sea.. I've no qualms with cropping off a bit from the left, and I think I'd go quite close at the bottom like you have too..
I was even considering cloning out the leftmost darker rock to make it more of an isolated object.... cool, thanks for the replies everyone ;)

I still like the first one the most. It is superb. I dont think the horizon should be in the middle.
It makes a peaceful and harmonic whole while uncropped.
Am I fighting for your first image here ?? :)))

I played.
And every one said, 'If we only live,
We too will go to sea in a Sieve,---
To the hills of the Chankly Bore!'

live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to
sea in a Sieve.

very nice! puts the onus on me to do something pretty with it if it ends up being gallery bound ;)
actually.. this kind of reminds me of those 'DITI' threads a while ago... if anyone fancies treating this as one of those you're most welcome to now that the initial crop issue has been discussed...

very nice David, I like this compo... sounds like a neat feature, wish I had cs4! the sky looks mad, bordering on the believable but anything's possible with nature!

I still like the original, but the B&W gets 2nd place IMHO.

All my crops are already taken...neat how the bw is a completely different image in mood..I would have to have one color and one bw of this.
Meowgli posted Fri, 24 April 2009 at 7:54 AM

have to say, I do really like that b&w version Tunde... just taking a break from work so might do something with it right now... keep an eye out in the galleries in a bit I guess..!

i'm liking the long thin crops ( a la Bruce and Danny) - the first reaction i had was "damn, if only there were more on the right to play with..."
Doubt i could add any more to the thread by playing myself...

I like a lot of the ideas everyone has come up with. I have to admit that I do this all the time. If there is a shot that I personally think can be improved, I save it and process it. (I don't show it to anyone or try to pass it off as my own! I just do it to help me improve my own processing techniques.)
Great shot, btw!

A fascinating thread, thanks for making me think,I cant come up with anything new on this however !

nice contribution SFGfx, I do quite like the idea of a vertical pano crop.... can't believe I didn't actually remember to take a vertical frame - usually pretty good about getting both variations of a scene!
thanks also for the comment Garlor, glad it made you think and I think aside from turning it upside down most of the useable crops have been 'taken' already anyway ;)
