Welcome to the Vue forums Paula, you'll find us a helpful bunch who rarely argue on here. If you have a question, just ask, nothing as stupid as the question that isn't asked as they say!!

I am far from an expert and there are plenty of others here who can provide much more comprehensive advice but your best bet might be to make some time to sit down and watch some of the excellent Vue tutorials at www.geekatplay.com and here at Rendo - you can learn an awful lot with just a few hours of watching these tutorials. I certainly did and I think you will find that the learning curve with Vue is much shorter once you have watched the experts at work.

Hi there! :)
well you'll find lot sof tutorials on my site (linked in signature) and on www.geekatplay.com
that hsould help you a lot!
Ahout the island: well you can have varied materials in Vue, set according to height and slope, for example, on real hills etc, the steeper the slope and higher t he elevation, more likely it is to be bare rock.
You can do that with vue using a "Mixed material" and set it to height depnedancy and slope.
