I have Photoshop CS1 and one thing I find frustrating is no viewer for the brushes. So searching the internet I stumbled upon this excellent FREE Opensource Photoshop Brush Viewer created by Luigi Bellanca.

Site Link = http://abrviewer.sourceforge.net

Note:

a) It required Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 or higher (it is a free download from Microsoft).

b) There is no documentation on how to use it but it's fairly simpley away.

Have fun.

Yes it is.  Most definitely a "must have" for those, like myself, who work with an older version of Photoshop.  ;-)

Seems like an interesting addition. My question is: can it view online brush sets before downloading them?

Hi Quest. Unfortunately there is no documentation with the program. As far as I can tell you have to direct it to look at a folder on your hard drive(s). Attached is screenshot of the latest version of the brush viewer.

Also following is link to Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 redistributable package.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=10CC340B-F857-4A14-83F5-25634C3BF043&displaylang=en

Note:  This program creates a png image of each brush and stores it in it's own "temp" folder. The "clear" function does not clear it's temp folder and so you have to  do this manually. However on a more positive side it also allows you to export a "Preview Panel" in png format.

Now that would be a nice feature Quest, but it only looks for unzipped brush sets locally on your hard drive.

I've downloaded it to try it out. Thank you both for your imput. Yes, that certainly would be a great and time saving feature. Maybe something to put in our collective wish-list.

Ok, so I went out and took the plunge, bought CS4, cuz I have some ideas about what I want to do with this. So I know ziltch about this only what I see here and what I know in my head and heart what I want to do and I'll do it, just gonna take time. So some guy with a head full of ideas, no background in this, sort of working idea as to it, is there tuts here that can take me step by step through this so I can learn and create what I desire??

The city I live in has a very old section to it many buildings that date back to the 1850's, I want to be able to restore them in pic form, I have photographed  over 1000 ships on the great lakes for over 30 years and want to use them and other forms of transport.  I know I am rambling here but these are all the things i wish and will do. Anyway I'll shut up now and see what sort of responses I get back, cuz am very excited to get on with this and see what I can do and contribute. Have enclosed some of the things I want to do      Thanks

Wryter, ordinarily we would say you are conceded, selfish and egocentric but you say you’re new here and so we’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. You have just transgressed on LBAMagic’s thread by hijacking it to post and exhibit your own work. This thread concerns itself with the program ABRViewer a Photoshop brush viewer.

Your image is very nice indeed and shows the promise of talent and should be displayed as a WIP (Work In Progress) in its own thread for comments and discussion or exhibited for the community to see and critique in one of the galleries depending on what means was used to create the image. Please take heed to avoid future transgressions.

At the top of the page in brackets you have choices. One of them says “Start thread”. Please use that to start your own thread. If you wish to upload your image to a gallery then across the top you have buttons. One of them says “Galleries”. Click on that then on “Upload Image”. This will walk you through the process.

First off,if I did transgress I will apologies for that as I was not aware I was doing that, as its not my intention to transgress anyone and to what I said I don't feel that I am conceited at all as all I did was state my case  as I saw it. Secondly the image that I sent was indeed not my own but one I borrowed from your site sometime back as I keep images like that in a file for refference  only so I may look at them to see as a guide only. I have not as yet produced any work and hopefully will do so as soon as I learn how

Again if I have  upset things then I will apologies to you all and work hard not to do so in the future. I will print this off and file it for future refference so thus error is not made again. Thank you for informing me of this........................

Not a problem Wryter. This does happen from time to time. Just look at it as an "Oops!" situation and be on with your life. If you start your own thread I'm sure people will try to help you with your questions. Also, it is often most helpful if you search through the forum to see if anyone else had posed the same question before you. You'll find this is often the case and reading the thread would sometimes guide you to the answers you seek. Good luck!
