I am trying to create a thatch material for a villa in Senegal: Despite much searching I have not found a seamless thatch material that is even close to real thatch.

However, the answer would appear to lie with Modo's ImageSynth...........is anybody using it, and if so, how are you finding the process & results, please?

Very easy to use and great results. I created some brushes for Carrara using it.

I used it too with great results. Now using version 2.

Be aware, though that ImageSynth works better when used on certain types of textures. It may be very good to make tileable pebble textures, but a bit tougher to use if you need semi regular structures.

Also note that base images with strong lighting differences (incident lighting) are almost impossible to use.

Never been able to get anything decent out of Image Synth, lol!
I bought PixPlant and for what I want (tileable textures out of my photos), it's perfect and soooo easy!

X3 - I use ImageSynth to create pretty much all of my tiling Vue materials and it's worth every penny. It's true that it works better with certain materials, but once you get the hang of what it will do and not do, working around those limitations in Photoshop isn't hard. i.e. ImageSynth will get you the tiling edges that are otherwise hard to create, but you can go back in and fix the bulk of the tile to your liking - at least this is what I do on the more complicated textures.

I use it too all the time. Great for noisy materials ie, gravel, dirt, etc.

PixPlant looks ideal for my purposes (since it will also create the various maps for a full texture), but then I found out that it is Windows only & I'm on a Mac.............ho, hum......

Besides, both these software options are a rather expensive solution to creating one, possibly two,  seamless texture(s)!...........Might I be able to persuade one of you gentlemen to kindly work the necessary magic on two thatch photos in order to make them seamless, please?
