I would like to see all who enter; vote. There should be a rule from the outset in future challenges that if anyone enters but does not vote... they should be eliminated.

What do others think?

TheBryster posted Thu, 04 June 2009 at 6:12 AM Forum Moderator

Considering it took me ages to organise the last set of challenge rules, I disagree.

What if your on holiday or something? We can't all be on here 24/7.

dhama posted Thu, 04 June 2009 at 7:14 AM

We all know when the challenge ends, so why is it so difficult to vote. I go on holiday too, but I still manage to vote everytime. I say it's no excuse.

@Bryster: I can't see how it is difficult to add one more rule.

orbital posted Thu, 04 June 2009 at 7:28 AM

Well ok, what if I voted for you say because I thought you deserved to win. But you couldn't vote for some reason. Then you were eliminated, that would be a waste of my vote and I could of voted for someone else. It would throw the voting system out, people would get fed up and nobody would feel like voting after a while. Instead of making it a rule, it would be simpler to just say if you enter the challenge please try and vote. But to elimante an entry that someone had spent a lot of time on would just mean that person may not want to bother again, and we would alienate people from the forum and possibly Bryce.

If I enter, I will always vote; simple as that. Why can't others?

But I can see your point on the wasted vote, so yes we could even say, If you enter the challenge, you are obliged to vote as well.

TheBryster posted Thu, 04 June 2009 at 11:39 AM Forum Moderator

Not going to happen. This isn't some 2bit dictatorship where you get put up against the wall if you didn't vote for El Presidente. You'll be wanting to force people to enter the challenge next. There are enough rules as it is. We're done here.

i dont really think its required for participants to vote. I dont think it'll make the contest more or less fair by demanding it. Either everyone just votes for themselves, which doesnt do much.. or they vote for whichever picture is best in their opinion, which is what most every voter does anyways.

This is an interesting point developing over the last several comments. The public declaration of the point allocations might be the problem. If the votes were kept as secret ballot regarding who voted for whomever, then an artist would not feel bad for voting for themselves, an option that should be available in any open ballot competition. But I assume that with the current public declaration system that no artist would vote for themselves for fear it would make them look tacky. Another way to think of it; if you submitted a scene and that of another artist and yours are only 2 or 3 points apart, you might be tempted not to vote at all rather than to give points to your competitors who might then overtake your own total. Voting would become somewhat counter-productive if one wants to win.

So there are two options. Either we keep the voting public and accept that artists may vote for themselves without judging them. Or, we establish some sort of secret ballot system. I am new around here so there is alot of history I am not clear on. Maybe secret ballots were already attempted and failed. I think that with secret ballots, all who enter are indeed encouraged to vote early, if for no other reason than to vote for themselves without any fear of being observed or judged. It might also ensure that votes are truly content driven and not popularity driven.

If I was forced to vote because it was one of the rules, I think it would make me feel kinda like someone was forcing me to eat icecream...I mean, I love icecream, but only on my terms...which is what voting is all about....

Whats wrong with you people, it's starting sound very banal. If you'd read the damned posts you would have read what TheBryster wrote.... "We're done here". I really don't give two hoots what anyone thinks now since it's old..... served it's purpose...dead.... no longer has a life of it's own.... taken away and buried..... the toast has been eaten and the crusts have been thrown away.... and one for you weezerhopw.... the icecream has melted and is now running down your sleeves.
Now, get a hold of yourselves and let this thread just fade into the bowels of Renderosity.

That reminds of a fellow from India I was working with for 6 months a couple years back.
He kept apologizing for his bad English (which was really very good, much better than my own).
I asked him where he learned to speak English.
He said "England".
We both had a good laugh over that one.

vangogh posted Sun, 07 June 2009 at 1:26 PM

I think in future challenges everyone should cast a vote for themselves, a vote for their favorite TV show and finally a vote for a really good reason why the bryster should lock this thread (all these inane posts are keeping us from working on our images).

For example, the voting would go like this (in my case)

Vangogh = 3
House or NCIS = 2
keeping me from working on my next image = 1

Of course I assume that everyone would cast their first vote for themselves, which would mean that there would be a first place tie of everyone and in this case I guess that would mean that we all would have a say in  setting the theme for the next challenge. Hey.....now theres a really good waste of time thread!!!

vangogh posted Sun, 07 June 2009 at 4:25 PM

I was just thinking.....in the event that more than one person voted for the same TV show, then there is the possibility that that show might be the top vote getter for the challenge....and then what would we do? Maybe contact the producer of that show and have them set the theme for the next challenge? Or maybe one of the stars of the show? This possibility has the added effect of maybe bringing some international attention to our beloved Bryce and maybe spike an upward interest in Brycing, which would certainly get Daz's attention and just maybe get them to start developing the prog again with the end result of there soon being released a Bryce 7!!!!

Hey.....just doing some creative thinking and dreaming here?!?!

dyret posted Sun, 07 June 2009 at 11:45 PM

what about me??? i dont even have a televison! now... let's get this thread locked.
