Republican Norm Coleman concedes the election

So the democrats have control of the house, a filibuster proof control over the senate, own the white house, and have most major media outlets in their corner.

Wasn't that whole separation of powers thing put into place to keep one ideology from controlling the nation?

WARK!

No it wasn't. Winterclaw- this is different then separation of powers. Separation of powers refers only to the 'organization' of goverment. Not to the parties in control.

Also- 60 dems is  completely different then 60 reps. Dems don't walk in lock step as the GOP does.
Remember that old Will Rogers saying
"I don't belong to an organized political party, I'm a Democrate."
It still applies.

As I've learned it, the purpose of separation of powers was put in place to prevent the tyranny of one person being in control.  The powers were kept separate so the three branches would be keeping each other in check.  However that is pointless if the branches are of a uniform belief and we don't have an honest media to keep them in check.

As to the dems, are you talking about the party that kicked liberman out for the sole difference he had with them was national defense?  I don't buy into that whole the parties are different so much anymore.  On a few issues I suppose, but for the most part, both parties are moving to the left.  Either it's inentionally (democrats) or its because of cowardace/playing nice (republicans).  Look at the Bush administration.  Yeah he some things with national defense (half-heartedly perhaps).  Yes he was conservative when it came to abortion-conrtol and tax cuts.  But he was more in the "center" than a lot of people gave him credit for.

All I know is there's no one to trust and now there's nothing to keep the democrats in check save for the threat of losing their majority (and I don't see that happening anytime soon).

Re Lieberman ... nope, Dems weren't happy with the fact that he said he would remain an "Independent Democrat" but then ended up campaigning for McCain.

And re: Franken ... when I heard this news I immediately thought of him saying "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me."  Hehehehe

RE: Keeping the dems in check ... when the shoe was on the other foot, who kept the Repubs in check and how different would things be today if they had been?

As much as I'd like to think that this thread won't go the way of past political threads, after several complaints, I'm going to be locking this thread.  As no actual TOS violations occured at all, no one's in trouble, it's just that, there's no way I can ask my team to watch this one thread more vociferously than the others.
