There are millions of significant historical events (the number varies, of course, based on each person's definition of significant) and only 366 possible dates in the Gregorian calendar. In all likelihood, there are thousands of events that happened on the past on August 17, especially if you extrapolate the calendar backwards in time to periods before it was in use.

Personally, I'm looking forward much more eagerly to July 20 of this year, an anniversary that has significant appeal to me... not the least reason for which is that I got out of school 40 years ago for the event.

Pattern! I get it. With Fall and then winter just around the corner in the Northern half of the world, and in full bloom in the Southern half...it's about to get or is currently cooler and then colder outside. August 17th marks the day you plan to release your newest product a tongue sock to keep that puppy warm. And it comes with addon "patterned" textures as a bonus!

If that's not it then the answer has to be on the tip of somebodies tongue. The problem is finding out who that somebody is and having them spit it out! :tongue2:

And, thanks for the offer to model something but my HDD overfloweth constantly so thanks ...

I tried searching the galleries for that day, but I can't get the stupid search function to work so I pretty much give up.

The only thing I can thing of is like art trades or a game of art tag (one person does a render and nominates someone else).

WARK!

Hmmm, the announcement of yet another new rule/policy to the gallery or anywhere else on the site?

I checked and the last time the TOS was actually updated was August 20, 2007.

I wish I could make this thread not appear on my screen so I could forget it. I have terminal curiosity and for no good reason at all I have to know what this is about. Each time another post comes, I open it hoping to see the answer, finally.

No joy. LOL

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Oh, wait. That was someone else's line, sorry.

I've also got the curiosity bug!

Why do people keep ignoring the clues?  Very disappointing.

If someone guesses the answer and either states it here in the thread, or PMs me, the "prize" has been named.  If the answer gets PM'd to me I probably won't reveal it in the thread though.

User Mondwin uploads an image once a year, on August 17th.
Some people are bothered that this particular user gets a lot of comments and places high on art-charts.

It's a bit of a non event, really.

Ah - well I'm glad that's settled.

Now that we know the answer, I can at least tell you why I seemed to ignore the clues. (You did ask heheh)

I have no idea who you're talking about.
I don't pay any attention to the gallery reaction to popular artists.

I, too, tried to research the galleries for images loaded on that date, but the search engine won't give any results with a date range alone. You have to already know what you're looking for.

Had I known that "Are you ready?" was a completely irrelevant question for me, I wouldn't have bothered reading.

But I guess I'm ready. LOL

I'll ignore it like I ignore every other day in the galleries.

's okay, you can donate the model to someone else :)

I haven't been doing that much posering for fun, so making something would be sort of wasted on me.  Perhaps watch the forum for people asing for stuff, and make a random pick.

no, wait, I just checked - it isn't always aug 17.  they look like photomanips, mostly.
I only spotted one nudie pic on the first page.

Thanks for the light-hearted entertainment, Paul, and everyone else who contributed to it.

But I'm sorry, I can't let this go: I was at first quite surprised at rendo admin for ignoring the unnecessarily rude and judgemental nature of some of the comments here. But possibly they appreciate that those who make such comments are just showing themselves up.... I don't know.

It's left a nasty taste in my mouth, but a glass or two of wine and an early night should put all to rights once more. :O)

izi, some of the responses may have been negative if they were bummed out that they couldn't guess the right answer.  personally I didn't feel bad. it's like the Second Pepperpot in the exploding penguin sketch: she wouldn't like knowing the answer to everything, that'd take all the mystery out of life.

my latest theory is that mondwin's birthday is aug. 17.
