We design multimedia stories, predominantly for kids and publish them on CD.  In the process, I make use of Poser 5, PaintShop pro 8 and Authorware as well as flash.
Many of the stories are about the time of Christ on earth.  Clothing is the problem.  In the more modern stories, I also need props and a pick-up truck, for instance, is nowhere to be found.
In Daz and other programs one sees models created by other people.  If I could do that, it would solve many of my problems.  I tried to master Blender, but that doesn't seem to be the answer.
So, please tell me:  What do designers use to create conforming clothing, props and the like?
UV Mapper is hopeless because tutorials do not take a dumb person like myself from the very beginning, so I could not try that either.
Any advice?  I need to make conforming clothing, props and so on.

Many thanks

Johan

Stick with Blender and eventually you'll be able to do everything with it, since you're already exposed to it.  It's a bit clunky and whatnot, but it does EVERY THING.  There are a lot of other choices out there that can do some of the things you can do with Blender, but most of them cost money and also most of them are less functional.

For myself I use Cinema 4D, which is a superb modeler and a great do-it-all application, but it cost a few thousand dollars to get it where I have it.  If I had to start over, and I had no money to spend n it, it'd be Blender no question.

Blender is one of the best probram but it is most difficult. There is no other 3d application with so weird interface.
Check wings3d forum. Wings is far from perfect but is most user friendly. Moreover tutorials are easy to find via google.

UV mapper is hopeless, because it has no unfold option - projections only.
Look here:

UV mapper and roadkill are easy to use on low poly figures.

Try Poserworld , Daz3d, and ContentParadise. There were some biblical era clothing there.

Learning how to 3d model is a different creature all to itself. Can it be learned? You bet. Does it take some time? You bet. 😄

You can hunt and peck for the models and/or clothing you are looking for, or you might want to try and establish a relationship with a content creator who can custom make what you want.

Several of my clients are writers and book publishers, if you want to talk further you can reach me at DarkEdge@sbcglobal.net

The website doesn't say much.  Is it a program that can be downloaded?  I would very much like to investigate this further.

Wings3D is definitely a downloadable program and it comes with an online manual to help you get started.

If you want an idea of how someone else models something I have a free time lapsed video showing how I model a dropship on my website.

Just go to www.DarkEdgeDesign.com and visit my tutorials page and download the Dropship video.

Wings is free, and it's got some really nice features. Once you get it, you'll usually get good responses in the Wings forum here at Renderosity if you post any questions.

Wings is going through a growth spurt right now, and they're having a new release every couple of weeks or so, and making some menu changes. At the web site, there are always a pair of download links, one for the latest "stable" release, and one for a "development" release. I usually get the development release, but being brand spanking new, these releases occasionally have glitches.

I've used all kinds of modelers, and I think Wings is one of the best around. And, you can't beat the price.

Thank you, CaptainJack.  I have downloaded it and started working with it already.  I hope that, as I proceed, that I will learn how to make clothing for exixting models such as Vic and Michael.  So far, I am sure that I will be able to make props that I need.  Glad to know there's a forum as well.
