Many thanks for selecting my pic this week - I am truly honoured and was not in the slightest expecting it. I mereley uploaded it as a sentiment rather than because of quality so this is a really nice surprise and has put a small smile on my face this morning.
Thanks again to you all for the hard work you do in bringing this to us each week.
Hugs xx

All very nice and well done. However, I have to say that there comes a point that a manipulated photo becomes a graphic. I feel there are a few here that cross that line. Just my observation with 2 cents added.
soepie17 posted Thu, 23 July 2009 at 2:43 PM
If a camera was used it's a photo in my opinion no matter how harsh the manipulation ;-)

Exactly, your opinion. As a photographer and graphic artist, there is a difference between the two. They do need to be judged on their own merits, separately. Photography is photography, and graphic artistry is graphic artistry. They should be separate. I have taken classes in art, graphics, graphical arts, Photoshop, and photography. There is a difference to all the instructors I have ever taken a class with. Photography here is really not showing the merits of photography, but how much manipulation to a digital image can be made. I still object to classing them all together this way, when there is a 2D section here, and photo manipulation section.

I see there is a discussion about what is photography. Perhaps this could continue as a new thread in the Photography Forum. I think it could be a very good and interesting discussion and probably receive more coverage and opinions there than here. Maybe someone would like to open that discussion in the forum?

I used the search for a photography forum, and guess this is it. Here are the guidelines, and several of those images do not fit the guidelines, so what are they doing here? The issue at hand has been bolded by myself in these:
Please read the following guidelines before uploading image to the Photography Gallery
Please review the thumbnail guidelines before uploading and images that contain nudity and or violence
**The Photography Gallery is for original photographs ONLY
** Do not upload images you “found” on the internet
If you are NOT the photographer but have permission to upload a photo, please choose the snapshot gallery
If you are using stock photo’s for manipulations, please choose the mixed medium gallery
If your image contains non-photographic elements, please choose the mixed medium gallery
If your image is processed to the point where it no-longer resembles a photograph, please choose the 2D Gallery
MrsLubner posted Fri, 24 July 2009 at 12:45 PM
Yes, this is the forum but you can start a new thread. At the top of this page, just above the Subject line, it asks what you'd like to do. Click on New Thread. then you can start that discussion and ask everyone to join in. Last Week in the Gallery is not really the place for this discussion. It's to view those selected for recognition.
