ok this is annoying me...
several OBJs I've made in Rhino, I've used them in poser fine, loaded the Poser file with the poser character with the models into Vue fine, no issues there.
I can load the objs in Poser, UVMapper and Rhino fine
yet if I import the objs into Vue 6 or 7.5 infinite, for some of the textures I get "invalid or unsupported file type jpg" error messages
yet they ARE normal jpgs, they do work if I load them into the material edtior by hand, after importing the obj and cancelling the error messages.
I suspect this is some weird damn "file association path" error on Vue's end! anyone got a clue on this? :)
(it's some items for the marketplace, fyi ;) )

just a thought but have you tried opening them in photoshop or whatever and resaving them as a jpg?
sounds daft but could help i guess!

When I had this problem, these images were "index mode" instead of normal RGB. I suggest that you check this in Image -> Mode, in Photoshop. If this is not it, then I don't know...

Rich was right!! :)
hm, I saved them out as SAVE FOR WEB this time, and some with VSO image resizer (to compare) and that did the trick!
maybe I saved originals out as straight from Photoshop (Save As), rather than FOR WEB from photoshop, and that did it?
yet they showed standard RGB on inspection
scratches head, puzzled

I've seen this same problem in other programs (including my own!). The header can be different for different JPG files. My programs couldn't open a JPG saved in CMYK format. Glad to see you solved it!

Chipp,
oh well it's a lesson learned! ;)
For years I've only had PaintShopPro, and it works perfect with jpg exports
but I guess "Sav As" with Photoshop and jpgs, goes a bit weird :p
so "Export for web" form now on!
it's so odd though thatthey load ok form the material Editor, but not obj import...meh, Bill Gates and his Dark Magic will be at fault to be sure! :p
I need ot learn how to use the 3D texture capabilities of CS4 Extended sometime though, ick, haven't seen any good tuts on it so still jsut doing flat texturing ;)
