When I load a wavefront object I get a little box with an X in it in front of the object name. And I can't see the object. But it imports and the name is there in the layer window. Any idea what the x in the box means? Thanks.

Your object is hidden. Click with the mouse on the X and you will see the object again.

Can you import your obj in an other application? Maybe the file is corrupt and need re-save.

That was the problem.

Also watch out for n-gons in your OBJ models.  Vue will abort importing if there are enough of them.  Groupings from Lightwave OBJ exports will hiccup Vue too.
