Yahoo!
Poser 8 Dimension3D The XL library is Fantastic! It works like a charm. It is fast, very visual, easy to install and has saved me from therapy.
I highly recomend this to anyone who has had problems with the Poser 8 library structure.
Now I am totally impressed with Poser 8.
(BTW I am in no way associated with the marketing of Dimension3D products, simply a grateful customer)

Hi  Jcleaver,  I believe it is ok to put the  link in. It is at Content Paradise. XL - P8 Library by Dimensions3D One of the best $8.00 investments I have made. You can see from the image how much easier it makes it to access the library.

BTW. I wanted to get it up and running quickly so i just installed it then in Poser  navigated to:
window
python
ScriptsMenu
Dimension3D
XL.pyc

It loads instantly and works instantly.
You can set it up to load automatically but I just wanted it work imediately so I did it this way.

It looks nice. But I must say I really like how the runtimes are treated likd ONE large folder in the new Poser 8. D3D's looks more like a "normal" windows explorer. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but the thing that everything is the SAME place, that I can have folders from different runtimes open at the same time, is a huge plus for me, the best thing really about the new Poser 8 library.

So this would be a step backwards for me. I do love D3D's products though and have some of them myself. For those who prefer a more "normal" folder structure, this is a great buy I'm sure :)

Me, I'll just wait for the library fix from BagginsBill

Hi martial, It is quite simple: Here is how I did it: 1) put the zip in SmithMicroPoser 8 folder 2) Extract here 3) It puts the the proper files in: python ScriptsMenu Dimension3D XL.pyc

Next:
In Poser navigated to:
window
python
ScriptsMenu
Dimension3D
XL.pyc

It will launch a window that looks like this.

lululee posted Fri, 07 August 2009 at 1:38 PM

Navigate to this first folder an open it.

lululee posted Fri, 07 August 2009 at 1:42 PM

You will see all of the runtime libraries that you have brought into Poser 8

lululee posted Fri, 07 August 2009 at 1:44 PM

Now you can load your items directly into your scene or onto your character. Right click on the file and choose your options.

there are more sophisticated thing to do but I just wanted to get it up and running.
Hope this helps.

I Just perchased this wonderfull little bit of genius. Works brilliant, I can see all I need to see without a microscope and and I found the workings of it fairly self explanetory...This new SM type of library is very similar to how the Daz Studio 3 library works and that was the one thing I hated about that too, I like simplicity and pictures I can see and if your the same then buy XL Library. Thanks D3D.

Since I had so many problems with the library in P8 I went and got XL---
I found that it did not identify my runtimes because the "add library' function in P8 did not work.
XL has no capability for adding or modfying runtime libraries
So I went and go a copy of P7's LibraryPrefs.xml  backed it up and  replaced the P8 LibraryPrefs.xml with it..
Presto-----It worked !!!  I really like this program (XL)
The person is a 'genius' three cheers for Dimension3D...
The runtime repair program is great too!!! Worth every penny!!!

I was really struggling with the small icons in Poser 8 and not only does XL remedy that it also gives you so much more!
The ability to load and conform multiple items at the same time is itself worth the price.
SM should hire Dimension3D or at least get them in as a consultant (IMHO).

Now if I can only stop these intermittent 'can't load texture' errors I will be a very happy Poser 8 owner.

D3D does make a script that conforms multi-items and another script that adds deformers to multi items that works on Mac's. I am still at work and poser it at home or I would provide more details.

I did get a bit tired of the P8 library and I decided to get this also and I'm impressed. XL Library works great, fast and very tidy. I really like the features it has and the size of the thumbnail is great.

The only thing I'm missing is when you do a search on an item to be able to go to the library it's in. For example, I'm looking for a soldiers outfit. I've got no clue which library it's in, but I do know it has a helmet. So, i search for helmet and from there I want to go to the library with the rest of the outfit. That's really missing at the moment.

Otherwise it's great and I really fail to see why SM went with this dumb external flash library system. The should have stuck to an internal library or python script one and not depend on something external like flash. They should replace their library with something like this.

I know the person who did the library and the UI is very respected, but as far as I'm concerned they never should have hired him and given in to his wants and needs, but look for the best solution. Imo they really made a bad decision in these matters, especially the library.

Quote - Now if I can only stop these intermittent 'can't load texture' errors I will be a very happy Poser 8 owner.

Report those to SM and let them fix the problem. Some have already reported it, but more need to do so, to convince SM that this is a bug. It actually has been there from P7, it was reported then also, but never fixed.

It looks like you have an apostrophe in the path to your runtime, it might be having a problem with that.

Thank you for replying Smee but i took that out and tried again and it was still the same error..

nruddock posted Mon, 17 August 2009 at 12:29 PM

The apostrophe is is definitely the cause of the error message.
When you say you removed it, what exactly did you change ?
You'll need to sure that the old directory name isn't stored somewhere that the script is referring to, e.g. in Poser's LibraryPrefs.xml (if so, stop the script, remove and re-add the Runtime in Poser, then restart the script).

deni67 posted Mon, 17 August 2009 at 3:21 PM

Thank you Nruddock, i'll give this a go as soon as iv'e woken up properly..lol
Edited to say i took the apostrophe out and just kept the name runtime V4 and runtime M4

deni67 posted Mon, 17 August 2009 at 10:59 PM

Tried everything i could but nothing works, pity because it looks so good..While i'm here i also get an error when i go to Scripts/Partners/Shaderworks/Import-runtimes..A window pops up saying
The script will "kill" the application
Your scene will be lost!
Do you want to processd?

Proceed is spelt like that too which i thought a bit stranges seeing it's spelt wrong..
Anyway when i click proceed it closes down Poser..
Other than those two problems i'm having a ball with the program and all my textures load perfectly from my external runtimes.

skylab3D posted Mon, 17 August 2009 at 11:21 PM

deni67, that's what it's supposed to say.  When it says "kill the application", it's just letting you know that it's shutting down and anything you have on the screen won't be saved if you have not already saved it.   Once it shuts down, then P8 should recognize your runtimes once you start Poser 8 up again, and then start your XL Library script.   Then you can  use XL Library to browse your runtimes by clicking on the yellow magnifying glass search icon....worked for me and for others.

skylab3D posted Tue, 18 August 2009 at 3:22 AM

What's funny is Dimension 3D is a partner developer; they are using a lot of his python scripts. :) I kind of wondered why they did not ask him to write the new library tools but who knows how companies work. Maybe he did not have time available to match their schedule. Nothing against BB but I remember him stating in another thread that we wanted to work on shaders and such but did the library because they asked.

Add me to those loving XL.

I know FLEX library works for lots of people but on my system, its slow to load, lots of times will never refreash and was causing random crashes; even after SR1. After switching to XL, all those issues when away. The only feature of FLEX I miss is how it searched everything, maybe for 1.2 D3D will improve XL's searching. ;)

skylab3D posted Tue, 06 October 2009 at 2:54 PM

Silke, it might help you to know that, with XL, you can do your initial searching for figures and minimize the window, then search for your poses and minimize it, then do a search through props and minimize it, whatever you use the most, and all can be minimized to the task bar at the same time and then called up whenever needed.   I work faster than ever now because I don't have to stop and search for things individually....I just run a search for whatever runtime I plan to use, the different parts of that runtime that will be needed, and then begin working.

I finally got the P8 content library to work by installing on a new computer, and the hitch was as I thought from the very beginning.   Because I suspected it to be a security or firewall issue, I did not install my security software until I installed P8, and almost immediately Windows firewall warned that it blocked Poser 8.   Because I could get  "under the problem" this time, was able to get it released, and it installed normally.   This was using IE7 with no update to flash, no tampering with the settings, on a dual core Vista with 8 gigs of ram.   It was merely a Windows firewall issue, but is not easily dealt with once it slips past the initial installation warning.

After having seen the P8 content library, I went right back to using XL.    Someone commented they were having a hard time with certain files not showing....I found that p3DO Pro version fixes missing files, so that it can populate the XL Library correctly.    Hope this helps.

for those who purchased XL
This is the first time I do a product update at the new Content Paradise store, and the CP store will introduce a new feature to handle updates in the next couple of days. So I can't tell the details at the moment. If you still have access to the download, you can download the new version at CP. Otherwise, if you send me the order number by e-mail, I will send you the update. (If for some reason you get no reply, try site-mail here at Renderosity, it's safe from spam filters.)

estherau
XL is a pure Python script. It does not need anything else to be installed on your computer except of Poser 8 of course. Internet Explorer or Flash Player is not required, neither for Windows, nor for Mac.

juggernutz
I had the chance to provide some content including Python scripts for Poser 8. However, I was not involved in the development of Poser 8 itself. If you are interested in the design decisions for the Flex library of Poser 8, I think BagginsBill has explained this in several threads here at Renderosity. Anyway, thanks that you prefer my library design.

Silke
Version 1.1 of XL now has the option to list the folders in the content list and buttons to switch between content types. So it comes pretty close to the old library, just with lots of extras.

I have a question: Can I just point XL to my P7 collections folder and get it to load props from the shortcuts there (into P8)? I spent a lot of time setting it up just the way I want it and would hate to have to redo all of that.

XL currently does not support collections. Maybe in a future version.

But it should work to get your collections from Poser 7 to Poser 8 if you copy your Poser 7 collections folder to the Poser 8 collections folder.

Sorry to be so dense.  Is it for sale here or CP?

Indi.

EDIT:  I see something called eXtended Library for Poser at CP, and Poser eXplorer here.  Are they the same thing?  Sort of the same?

Got it!  Thanks!  WOW!  Good bye Poser libraries that just insist on crashing Poser!  Goodbye blindness where I can only see a few of something in a library and cringe everytime I need to scroll or click on something because I know a crash is coming!  Wow, how cool!  I can see! I can see! cough

So the XL library is fantastic.   Is there a way to get it to sort my folders/files alphabetically?

Indi.

Dimension3D posted Sat, 10 October 2009 at 6:09 PM

Folders and files should be sorted alphabetically initially. At least, they are on my system. On Windows, they should be sorted from left to right and on Mac up/down.

Hi Ralf,

Here's a pic of one of my runtime/library/pose files.  It's my hair runtime and so these are the hair mats.  I've scrolled 3 times (yea, I need to clean it up) to show you.

It looks like it is sorted alphabetically backwards at first, but you can see as I scroll down it's all a mess.  This runtime is on an external USB hard drive.

Thanks :)

Dimension3D posted Sun, 11 October 2009 at 7:53 PM

I still can't reproduce this on my system, even when using an external drive. Anyway, I added an option to sort files and folders.

Send me a mail with your e-mail and I send you the version with the sort option.

one downside is it isn't included in the undo of poser, so after you load the figure you just can't click undo.
Otherwise it's pretty damn good.

It's a general drawback of Python scripts for Poser that undo is limited or unavailable.
