Subject: I can no longer use my brush on layers

Don't know what I did but since this started have reset my preferences so that should have fixed it. Earlier today was able to use my ps brush on a layer, now will only show up on the background. Anyone have this happen and if so how did you fix it? Am using CS 3 Extended.

That's really strange, are you sure you did not lock the layers by mistake?

 a locked layer is the only thing i can think of that i've inadvertenly done myself...

Yup checked that before I asked. Tried to check everything before I bugged people with such a dumb question, but guess it wasn't so dumb.

Are you trying to paint on a shape layer? You can't unless it's rasterized. You can create a new layer above a shape layer and paint on it.

is the brush tool set to normal mode ?

When it happened it was on a new document and I believe the brush was set to normal mode, reset everything. Still don't know what caused it, ghost in the machine?
