Poser 8 in Windows Vista.
I have added my libraries and I can see the folders there but every folder (including P8) has a ?
beside it and I can't access anything.
I have tried hitting refresh but it doesn't do anything.
I've tried being patient but that hasn't helped either!
Would love some help to fix this.
Thanks!

I have noticed that having a large amount of runtimes takes a long time to access them. I find that chosing a single runtime in the pulldown menu solves this problem. Even reading a single runtime can take a while. I think that whatever process or parsing of the thumbnails is what takes the time.

Hmm it's not just a long time though it's been running all day O.o
Also I have tried looking at that and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Try this... If you see the question marks on Launch, close Poser and relaunch. I experienced that after adding a bunch of Runtimes the previous session. After relaunching, it ran without any question marks. If they are occurring at other times, let support know...

Ooooooohhhhh I think I worked it out d'oh
I wondered why it was so random, it was working sometimes then not others.
Seems if I set the preference to "launch to my preferred state" it can't load the libraries - have to launch to factory state then it quickly updates everything.
/fingers crossed that's it!
Purrdey posted Sun, 16 August 2009 at 3:54 PM
Or NOT lol they all just disappeared again while I was working /sigh
Closed it down started it up and there are the ?s again ><
Ticket raised.

I have the opposite situation. Everything I add is listed twice.

Click the refresh and it should clear up to just one of each.

This thread has some useful info.
Been through all that, asked my question there and the thread got hijacked by the Flash
nay-sayers, that's why I started a new thead to see if anyone else was having the same issue.
going back to that, the refresh button does not do anything, zilch, nada, even if I leave P8 on the whole day as I did yesterday, the library does not refresh.
A couple of times I've seen everything there, go to work on a picture and look up and it's all gone again.
Purrdey posted Mon, 17 August 2009 at 11:20 AM
I should also add that I have updated flash, I've uninstalled and reinstalled twice, and been through all the suggestions on the other thread.
I was hoping that the experts who know all about the library structure would have an answer but I guess not. I'll have to wait for a reply to the ticket or I suppose I've got 2 and a half weeks to return it for a refund.

nay-sayers,
LOL
Let's use a secret debugging feature of the new GUI. I suspect the server side of Poser is generating bad data and the GUI cannot read anything from it.
Go into the search tab. Put the focus into the search field where you type what you are searching for. Press the following keys: F7 F8 F8. Those three keystrokes will reveal the debug log of the GUI.
I am attaching a screen shot for clarity.
Examine the log to see if there is anything mentioning a "Fault". Unfortunately, there is no way to copy text out of this control as we disabled the Flash right-click menu. If you see a fault, can you take a screen shot and show it to me?
Making the library window bigger might make that easier.
To put the log away, press F7 F8 F8 again.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Ohhh lol thanks for the reply BB! I have complete faith that a solution will be found but I want to play and impatience gets the better of me sometimes ;)
It's really good of you to help us noobs in your own time and I for one really appreciate it!
Ran the F7 F8 F8 thingy and got the response
45:25.645 - config: getconfig request
45:25.783 - Config: getconfig response received
nothing about a fault although on the log filter "fault" is ticked with a 1 beside it.
bagginsbill posted Mon, 17 August 2009 at 2:01 PM
Level 1 is Error only, and Faults, which are the only things that pass through the Fault filter, are always errors. That's no proof however - many things in the guts of Flash get in the way of detecting things sometimes.
1 = Error
2 = Warning
3 = Info
4 = Debug
5 = Trace

With Poser up and running, click on this URL link.
http://127.0.0.1:11530/apps/lms/api.py?op=scanCategory&id=Character
This will go directly into the Poser back-end and perform one of the basic queries that the Flex GUI uses to populate itself. This should scan the Figure (Character) category of all your runtimes and give us a high-level summary of them in XML. In IE, if the XML is good, you'll see it. If it is bad, you'll get an error complaining about an invalid character. With some other browsers, I'm told, you have to "View Source" to see the XML.
If you get XML back, look over it. Does it look right? Can you post it as a text file for me?
If you don't get XML back, can you tell me what the browser says?

It's strange, I just started up Poser and some of them were there, I managed to load V4 from my P7 library, went to Poses, V4, characters and everything was [?] again.
I just tried to run the script link, it's been loading (the green bar on IE) for ages - how long should it take?
bagginsbill posted Mon, 17 August 2009 at 3:37 PM
It should be instant. There's something wrong with the file scanner inside Poser.

Ahh well that's my problem then It's been running about 15 mins now and is only half way :/
Hopefully there's a fix for it.
Purrdey posted Mon, 17 August 2009 at 3:47 PM
Oh now I just tried the F7 F8 F8 thing again and it says:
rver.Error.Request"faultDetail="Error:[IOErrorEvent type="ioError"bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2
http://127.0.0.1:11530/apps/lms/api.py"] messageId="84923BA6-EE09-2266-F349-2A0E04D3118" Fault Request Info id=C:ProgramFiles (X86)E FrontierPoser 7DL op=scanFolder 30:44.948-Fault:FAULT Detected!
then the same right down to "op" but this time it says =refreshItem
and that one a few times.
bagginsbill posted Mon, 17 August 2009 at 4:28 PM
What is this folder?
C:ProgramFiles (X86)E FrontierPoser 7DL
It's barfing on that.

Hmm that is all my runtimes except the poser direct ones. Let me rename them and let's see if that fixes it.
Purrdey posted Mon, 17 August 2009 at 11:56 PM
OK so at least I feel we're on the right track lol!
Tried renaming them but with limited success, and also now the "add runtime script" doesn't find them.
So I have a whole raft of runtimes, I had them named "DL A3&H3" / "DL Hair" / "DL Lights" ... etc. I just tried renaming all of them to DownloadA3&H3, and so on, took out any spaces etc.
It hasn't worked but is there a naming convention for the old runtime folders so that P8 can read them?
Purrdey posted Tue, 18 August 2009 at 2:53 AM
Actually cancel that slight feeling of hope - If it were just my naming conventions then everything should be OK with my Poser 8 library and that has ?s too ><
