Subject: An idea for a hair product -- or maybe it already exists ?

Dave-So ( ) posted Sun, 23 August 2009 at 11:21 AM · edited Tue, 24 October 2023 at 3:09 PM

there are now about 2000 different hair products floating aorund Poserland. Most are pretty decent, but it gets to be a chore obtaining a flow of styles for a character.

What do I mean by this...
for instance, if a woman has medium to long hair, she can change her look day to day depending on mood or occassion. She can wear her hair up, down, ponytails, braids, on and on.

Now what  I would like ot have available is a hair product that can perhaps bring us stages of a hairdo...partially braided, partially up, as in during the styling, etc...
and from that, expand to a hair product that allows us to style the hair by actually styling the hair ourselves. Now this may sound undoable, but it is being done to a certain extent in Poser already with the strand hair. Another product that brings this to us, in a way,  is PhilC's Hair Designer product ( http://www.philc.net/HairDesigner.php ) , but I'm thinking of doing it with just a hair model... perhaps where you can actually have enough morphing that is allows multiple styles and portions of styles. Perhaps there already is such a product and I have not found it yet... and more than likely, I'm not explaining myself fully :) cause my brain typically outraces my ability with words.

So, say you had a female figure with long flowing hair...then you wanted to do an image with her sitting on a chair with another person braiding the long hair ... and she was just beginning, she would need to have 2 sections of hair in her hands ... or in later stages, one side could be partially braided, the other not, etc. Or in the case of a ponytail, I would like to do an image with the hair in one hand and a rubber band in the other , etc  ....

Hopefully this makes a little bit of sense :)

something like this  maybe, as a somewhat poor example...

The closest thing I think you may get to that is Daz's Vicky's Changing Ponytail.

I can't imagine the morphs involved to morph a hair prop in this way, since it would involve the individual strands.

Seems like it would be a whole lot of work for a very small audience.... unless
you could get a commission from a hairstylist's trade association or somesuch.

That's a cool hair idea.

Just curious...where do the hair creators get the textures from that you see in the Materials Room?

I have Hexagon and the hair tutorial by Valea seems good enough to follow with one exception...UV mapping! She tells us  to UV map pretty early on because we'll have many different sections at the end which will be harder to do if you wait. I have yet to wrap my mind around UV mapping.

I've always wondered where you'd got the textures from though...

the best way is to find someone with long flowing hair..
you then cut it off around the rim of the head, then lay it out flat on a white tablecloth so its flat pretty much. Then you take a picture of it, bring it into PS or PSP and create a tile.
viola.

Oh. I thought you could get it off the web.

actually , there are quite a few hair resources right here on Rendo. Do a search in both freestuff and the store, you should find something....plus you can often use the hair textures from products you may already own..at least in your own stuff. Not sure if you can sell them, at least in their current state.
