I've been an "outsider" for ages now; always amazed by what you talented folks could do with Blender, yet always put off by the "unconventional" interface. Looks like now is the time for me to try it again.  :)

Really interesting.

Can't wait to try it out.

Me, too... But when I d/loaded the 2.50 builds from Graphicall, they turned out to be 2.49 or even 2.48... What`s up? Can sb link me a txt explaining this, or give a word how it works?

This build neither works on my WinXP. "Faulty initiation 0xc0150002".

Try this one from DingTo:

http://www.graphicall.org/builds/builds/showbuild.php?action=show&id=877

His is the only one I test out.

If you still have problems...you may need to install runtime components of Visual C++ libraries.
blender.org has the details there.

Edit: Oops, I see that was the link you downloaded.
I think you may have to install the Visual C++ libraries as detailed at blender.org.
I have never had an issue with this on XP pro sp2 and Blender.

3dtrc posted Tue, 29 September 2009 at 1:20 PM

Is that 64bit xp pro?
If so...

Note: This version requires Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistribution Package (x64). (about 5MB)

The 64bit release of Blender for Windows is still in a development stage: it doesn't support all possible features yet, like FFMPEG, OpenAL and Quicktime.

If this does not work, then someone else may have an answer...I'm still new at Blender.
Can not think what else is causing this error.

Well, I dont have 64bit, and I d/loaded 32bit Blender (or I hope so:<). Isnt the pkg made for 64bit machines? I found sth else:

Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=A5C84275-3B97-4AB7-A40D-3802B2AF5FC2&displaylang=en

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=200B2FD9-AE1A-4A14-984D-389C36F85647&displaylang=en

What about these?

3dtrc posted Wed, 30 September 2009 at 12:21 PM

Ok...32 bit used.
Try deleting the custom default blend file b25.blend(in the .blend folder) and restarting blender.

I've been using 2.50 on xp pro sp2 all along with no problems.
What video card you have?...opengl version?...drivers up to date?...laptop or desktop?

Hmmm... No .blend fldr, no b25.* file :0 What`s wrong?!

Using http://www.graphicall.org/builds/builds/showbuild.php?action=show&id=877
DO you think a graphics card or its drived could crash an app on start?

3dtrc posted Thu, 01 October 2009 at 11:14 AM

Looks like you got a incomplete download. I would try downloading again I'm getting 2.50 listed here...

Silgrin posted Fri, 02 October 2009 at 3:40 AM

Thx. Unfortunately, it repeated so many times I dont think another one would fix the thing. Do you know some other place where I could get B 2.50? Dont the guys at www.blender.org have some test build repository?
BTW, the zip archive works w/o any error messages, so it seems they have some problem on their server??

Do you have,
Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86)
installed?

Wish there was a way to get the scroll wheel to work.
hate not being able to move my view port.

Gog posted Sun, 11 October 2009 at 10:25 AM

3dtrc posted Mon, 12 October 2009 at 5:53 PM

No...1.1 will not work.
A minimum of 2.0 .net is needed...which dates back to 2005.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.NET_Framework

Most software now(past few years) needs at least 2.0.
Give that a try.

3dtrc posted Mon, 12 October 2009 at 7:45 PM

Actually...you might want to try the latest download 23768 out today
http://www.graphicall.org/builds/builds/showbuild.php?action=show&id=877
It may fix your other display problem also.

Lots of fixes been done since 23285.
Check graphicall often.
Still going to need that .Net update though.

SEspider posted Tue, 13 October 2009 at 11:42 AM

Nope, still not working. I must be missing something. Did the controls for the Scroll wheel change?

I'm using the Windows7 Beta (activated)

Scrolling zooms in & out as normal as does pressing it to rotate around the mesh in real-time.
But The Shift + Scroll and the Ctrl + Scroll does Nadda (Nothing at all).

All updates and needed files installed but same issue continues to happen. 2.49b does not do this. Instead it gives me a menu lag (when you hover off of it).

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2782467

This bugs me. The 2.50 beta runs soooooo much smoother then 2.49 and later ever did. Same goes for it's lighting. :(

3dtrc posted Tue, 13 October 2009 at 12:30 PM

It's got to be a Windows 7 issue then.
I'm on XP Pro and plan to be using it for a long time.
I would go over to blender artist forums to get help there...probably more people using win7 there.

Enivob posted Fri, 30 October 2009 at 9:18 AM

I noticed that the scroll wheel only works on certain panels. Yep, it is still buggy and crashes quite a bit.

I am not a big fan of all that wasted interface space, how is this an improvement?

3dtrc posted Fri, 30 October 2009 at 11:03 AM

This release was 6 weeks ago.
There has been many releases sense then.
This is not even in beta yet.

This is not for SERIOUS WORK!
This is for TESTING ONLY!

Have you reported the bugs and crashes?
