I imported a base pz3 with a character, no clothes, holding a ball, and a basic short hair.
I do not know how to add (*or what to add!) to get lighting in the front of the character, to fill in the scene without disruprting the atmosphere I created? Heck let's just focus on the fill light. When I import her, the lighting is always at the back of her. I need to add enough light to illuminate her features in the front otherwise she is just a shadow figure.
Please can someone help me? ThanX!
I looked and I don't know how to query this question in the help section.
I am also having issues with translation pulls... finding a way to smoothly move the object XYZ... It seems to be "jumpy" I may be doing it wrong I think... advice?

Hi Ariana, can you give us a screen shot of your Vue setup, especially the right hand menu showing all your objects. --- need to know if you are importing Poser lighting.
To reduce the amount of jerkyness, generate another layer and place the figure there, then disable the base layer (making it invisible) AND under render options click on show visible layers only. Jan

You can't import poser lights into Vue (and that's a good thing too if you ask me!)
if you want to illuminate the figure, try adding a quad light just in front of her and tweak the intensity.

Hi Frank, when I import a V3 figure (Poser 5), Vue 7 Pro Studio, gives me this "unable to locate Poser 5/Runtime/geometries/Lights/infLite.obj." I do know that Poser 5 doesn't have that, however it implies that some upgrade does be it P6, P7,P8. Got any idea what that is? Jan
FrankT posted Wed, 23 September 2009 at 8:11 PM Online Now!
I've never come across that message when I'm importing from Poser 7 so it might be something in P5. I always import the PZ3 file and so far as I know, Vue ignores any light information in it. Might depend on how your are getting the figure from Poser into Vue
silverblade33 posted Wed, 23 September 2009 at 8:42 PM
Heyas and welcome to Vue! :)
The "Unable to find light", just ignore it, I get it too, think it's from IBL lighitng from Poser?? doens't matter, just ignore it
Vue always starts with a Sun light. If doing indoor renders with no windows, delete it.
However, I assume you are using the Sun, so you can adjust it by hand, or by precise controls (but the precise controls are only really useful when wanting to replicate real life,IMHO, such as light at 8am etc)
I will make you a new tutorial, give me an hour please :)

That's VERY easy once you now how to do it: add a Point Light to the scene in front of your Poser character, and somewhere in the object settings of that Point Light there's a setting "which other objects should be influenced by that light".
You can check a box named (from memory) "Include only marked objects". Now you can edit the tree view below and select the objects which should be influenced by that light.
Select your complete Poser character including clothing.
For indoor scenes it's often a good idea to remove/decrease the shadows of that light.
Add more lights to taste.

OK I am here....
As I am reading and having been playing in Vue I am beginning to see that knowing poser may not be helping me out much. I don't know what to set my prefs at, or even how to do this...
So if someone can be specific in what screen shots you would like to see first, I'm ready to start sending them out.

a screenshot of the main Vue windows would probably be a start. That way we can see what the scene looks like and maybe make some suggestions

ok, first image says your video card won't support hardware OpenGL which might explain why your translate is a bit jerky. I don't know if a driver update would help any - someone more hardware literate than me might have a better answer.
Second image is fine if you want the import to come in dead centre and scaled up ( I normally have both of them set)
Third one - leave the top one ticked. Unless you want to use the Poser shader tree (which is a bit of a resource hog) take the tick out of the "Render materials using Poser shader tree" - Vue will warn you that using that option takes a lot of resources. I leave the quaternion thingie unticked - I have no idea what it does though.
I usually just import a single frame - normally frame 0 unless I'm importing a pz3 with dynamic cloth in it

"I leave the quaternion thingie unticked - I have no idea what it does though."
You got me on that one too! I had no idea what it was! LOL!
So it seems that everything else (*with exception to your suggestions) is ok. I knew about the vid card and figured at $200.00 it was worth buying now and have it for the new system comming in February.
I'll play around with it tho and see if it can produce something. Oh can someone tell me how to do a clear background? As in a PNG format? ThanX!!!
Sorry I got back late but one of my neighbors almost got hit by a car! Right in front of my house. She had her 2 week old in a stroller and the lady down the block tried to hit her on purpose. We know this because she turned around and came back at her!!! Freakin' people!

Quaternion interpolation is involved in animation. In Poser, you have 3 types of interpolation; constant, linear, and spline (or quaternion). Constant is just that; define a simple motion and it does it. Linear is also simple; set a motion from point A to point B and it occurs at a steady speed (that speed being determined by how many frames it takes to move between the two points).
Quats are more complicated; applied to the point A-point B motion, the motion begins slow at point A, increases in speed as it nears the centerpoint of the distance, and slows down to stop at point B. This effect is more realistic in terms of what human motion is. The reason it's provided as a checkable option is the incredible trouble it can get you into. If you look at spline based interpolation on the Poser graph editor, you see that the motion curve looks like half of a sine wave....which is exactly what it is (or more accurately, half a sine wave with the bottom half clipped). Trouble comes when you decide to adjust a spline by adding a new keyframe and moving it. The new keyframe introduces a new sine wave into the motion pattern...and one that is not clipped off at the bottom. So instead of a simple, gentle curve, you can get a sudden spike of motion far above your intended distance....and and equally deep drop into negative motion numbers before it returns to the initial keyed values. If you've ever seen what looks like a smooth animation suddenly explode into chaos and incredibly shredded geometry, you most likely just watched someone mess up quaternion keyframing.
Vue can get cranky with the values that some bad quats give (you get into a lot of floating point math with it), so they made it an option. If you uncheck it, Vue treats the animation as linear keyframed.
And one hopes the lady with the bumper tag fetish got a visit from the nice police, considering that was attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon......
FutureFantasyDesign posted Fri, 25 September 2009 at 4:24 AM
Yes she has been arrested and is now in Yearington jail, which as I understand it is a VERY bad place to be in!
ThanX for the explaination about the quaternion, obviously a word that is rare in most circles! :)
Have a great evening, I am definitely due to crash....

Quote - OK, here are the first 3 that I think may be important
OpenGL warning pop-up: this is a general problem with ATI video boards. They are OpenGL 2.1 only (some (even new ones) OpenGL 2.0 only). Vue detects this and changes the OpenGL settings accordingly. With trial and error you can change some of the settings to something better, but I highly recommend using a NVidia card, which support OpenGL 3.1! I recently bought a GForce GTX275 (which is in your price range) and am a happy camper now. No big cubes in the preview window while moving an object but nicely textured 3D objects.
I can't say anything to the poser options. I'm DAZ-Studio :)
select your character, click on the left upper preview window and change the handle to 'rotate' (that's directly under 'move'). Grab the circle and rotate your object to taste.
read that fine manual. It's pretty good and detailed.

Aw Crowning that is helpful info! Unfortunately I only have a 305watt power supply on board and that is what limits my card options. (***Unless I am wrong there?) So until I get my new system in February I am stuck with the low end card.
Thank you for pointing me at the controls... I will play later and look for those, up til now I was trying control/pull and shift/pull on the icon...

Ariana,
ok, by February, maybe some newer motherboards etc will be out, but at the moment, this is my suggested spec for a good system for 64 bit graphics use, like Vue :)

One general advice: to learn a new program, start with a VERY simple object to get use to the control features so you don't have to wait to much. Move, rotate, resize, motify, re-texture and whatnot until you figure out:
how things work
what effects a change REALLY has. You won't see a small texture change one a +1000000 trees eco system, but you can learn a lot by looking at one single leaf.
