I was thinking of dropping the 'princess' off my username.
It's $10 for the 'change your username' service.

No body 'plays Misty for me' any more or brings me flowers or sings love songs.

Another thing to keep in mind, if a copyright orphan bill ever gets passed, is that changing identities will make it more difficult to find the copyright owner of a work and will effectively orphan the works under the old identity. It's not a permanent loss because copyright ownership can be established again.
A prolific artist, signing works with various user names and IDs, is creating a situation where it will be difficult or impossible to trace those works back to the original artist as the artist switches to new IDs and email addresses.
Minimizing changes to identities will make it easier to retain copyright control over one's works.
I wonder if the feature change, charging for name changes, explains why there were a rash of them all at one time.

Be thankful that it's only $10.00!
When the service first arrived, it was $25.00!!!!

The idea behind the price at that time was "to be a deterrent to excessive name change requests and to cover our administrative time." Then they lowered the price to a more reasonable sum.
I tried keeping track of people who changed their name, and Stacey had an online list that she was keeping updated. But there were some who didn't want a reference to their old name, and others who didn't want to be listed at all, so that list fell by the wayside.
I try to keep track of vendors who changed their name, only because I file my uninstalled content by creator followed by product code and name of item. So if a vendor changed their name, their content still goes in the original folder for that creator; I just tacked on their name change to the end of the folder name.

Quote - Why not open a new one under the name you want?
The idea behind a programmed name change is that everything you have on the site follows your new user name....purchases, gallery, forum posts etc.
Creating a new user name will not allow you to have access to your poser purchases or gallery under that old user name without logging into that name.

Yeah. But if you are going to restart your store by renaming yourself what's the use? If I changed my name to PrincessLuke it would so confuse my customers I would be starting over trying to build my name back up.
Stick with your name Misty.

Ars Technica (where I'm also MyCat) charges $10 too. Someone has to do stuff to make it happen. When you consider that, $10 seems like a bargain. I doubt that it happens often enough that they can hire a minimum wage dedicated name changer.
LukeA posted Tue, 29 September 2009 at 8:53 PM
Yeah I think they need to charge - but if you have any sales at all why would you change your name? You need to build your brand!

Luke, I don't see anywhere where Misty has said she has a store here for any brand name to be protected, In fact, going to her home page and then the store link shows that she isn't a merchant here at all.

Many other sites (like DAZ for example) allow you to change your forum name for free and there is no human labor involved. I'd like to change my name on the forums here, but I'm not about to pay for it just because renderosity happens to have a suboptimal site setup.
Edited to add, I suppose it'd be possible to transfer my gift certificates to another account by buying a gift certificate with them. Assuming of course that creating multiple accounts isn't prohibited by the TOS here.
