You can now buy P8 FULL for $129, same as the price for upgrade.
That's all good, but is a ripoff imo. Why not reduce the upgrade price too ?

Where can you buy P8 full for $129?
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

I got that email too, even though I already bought the upgrade for $129. Very disheartening to see this on such a new product.

To pull in NEW customers perhaps?
If you have previous versions of Poser you did select the UPGRADE to purchase, right?
You got a discounted price for being a loyal customer. (Whatever)
Version 8 is out. Some issue with the release requiring a SR1, sales slow, have a sale, get some NEW customers.
What's the problem?

well, it's not a "going out of business" promotion, anyway.
in case anybody asks.

New customers aren't the ones getting the emails though are they?

We've seen this happen before shortly before Poser changed hands & development started on the next version, Curious Labs & EFrontier both did it & now Smith Micro are doing it, is Poser going to change address again?
ps Those ads for the price drop will probably appear in the next round of computer/art related magazines.

Software Never Retains or "stores" its Monetary value
particularly non standard niche apps like poser, bryce etc
only precious metals( gold, silver etc) do that.
The people who rush to buy the new poser version immediately upon release should know better by now that within six months the price will be lowered and you might even have an SR of two.

How would you get the emails if you're a new customer? I got this too and didn't let it bother me...getting used to this type of behavior from them.
Dave-So posted Wed, 07 October 2009 at 6:13 AM
its actually a promotion which end on 1 November.
As the OP, what bothers me is the fact the ful price is the same as the upgrade price, which basically gives you, as an existing customer, no incentive to upgrade. I have not purchased P8 yet. Buying the upgrade at the same price as the full is no incentive for me, plus the fact there is no difference in the 2 versions, especially considering you download them. You usually get a larger discount for an upgrade version.
There is no doubt that within a year P8 will be on sale for $79 or less.
This one of the reasons I quit buying Poser and other apps right away. I bought P1 through P5 right away, in fact, I pre-ordered 4 and 5, but after the 5 debacle, I promised never again. It wasn't price at the time but the quality of the release, or lack of. Now, with funds not as easy to come by, price also plays into the equation, so I need to maximize what I get and reduce expenditures wherever possible. If Smith were to also reduce the upgrade price to $99 or so, that would be an incentive for me now to upgrade.

I wonder if the license allows giving away an older version if a person buys the full version instead of taking the upgrade path?
Even if the license doesn't, other laws may take precedence, such as the first sale doctrine.

Ideally, there should be a discount on the upgrade price as well as the full version.

This May be of interest:

very good news on resale.
EF used to have a license transfer form on their site. i sold Shade that way, and Poser was saleable as well.
That's what I was thinking though ... buy the full version which takes you out of that upgrade loop and sell the older versions.
