G'day,

if anyone missed this, Vue 7.51 Infinite - Build 46408 is available at the e-on update page.

I've installed it yesterday and rendered something this night, no problems so far.

Vue runs smoothly, and the RenderCows got updated without any problems as well.

So, at least for PC 32-bit platforms everything seems fine 👍

Did they fix the disappearing ecosystems? Checking the list of fixes now.

Doesn't appear in the list, grrrr....

Is there a simple way to test this?

Yes, create a terrain, use 2 material layers. Add an ecosystem layer to base layer and populate.
Next add an ecosystem layer to the 2nd layer. No need to add anything to the list.
First eco layer has disappeared.

No Bruno - it has not been fixed.  I just downloaded and checked Build 46408.  I grappled with this all day yesterday before I realized what bug I was dealing with.  And here I was the one who raised the issue way back when on September 4 in my Quirk or Norm post.

In referring back to my own post, though, I remembered how I could get around it.

PS - I'm not even sure e-on considers this a bug.  This is the answer I received in response to my bug report:

*"Hi Mari-Anne,

After you have added empty ecosystem layers, just go back to each layer and create your ecosystem. You don't have to populate it at that time.

Then, after you've selected the items for each ecosystem, go back to the lowest layer and populate. Then move up through the layers, from the bottom up and each one will populate.

That way you get your desired effect.

Best regards.
Lee Randall* "

Yeah, this way it works, but it's not how it should work, and if they can't fix it, they should explain somewhere , maybe in a newsletter how to work around it. I raised a support ticket and Lee responded and could repeat the bug (wasn't that hard, right?), I hope this will be addressed soon.

Yes, I hope it will be addressed soon, too.  EcoSystems are such a major part of Vue, and you'd think that' would be the first issue they would fix in a new Build.

It's not always a problem, but when you spend time creating your base ecosystem and have it the way you want it exactly (populating, painting, erasing and such), and all is ruined as soon as you create a second eco layer, it becomes a very big deal!
Not mentioning hitting render and realize your eco has disappeared when the render completes!

I had a problem (v7complete) that when I populate from the bottom up, populating the upper layer emptied the lower layer. This cant be right particularly  if you have affinities between the ecos in the different layers. You must populate the upper layer last.
But in principle, It really shouldnt matter in which order you populate. Quite often I change my mind about the details of the various ecos. If I repopulate one layer I shouldnt need to repopulate any of the others, some of them are time consuming.

Exactly what happened to me today, Pnina!
This wouldn't bother me if this was the way things are done. Add eco layers, populate later. But we rae not used to this behaviour, it wasn't like this in Vue6, and I haven't seen it mentioned that things had changed in Vue7.
As I said, it's not always a problem, but sometimes, it can be frustrating.

I think Vue Infinite 7.51 has run its course as far as updates go.  Version 8 is getting ready for release soon.
