We've just released a free content package for Poser 8 users, and an important Poser 8 Content Updater. All the info and links are on my Poser Blog:

poser8.smithmicro.com/cgi-bin/blosxom.cgi

Also, a little heads up, SR2 is very close. Once it's ready, I'll post news on the blog, and here on Rendo.

Cheers,

Steve Cooper

Thanks, that's a nice surprise to wake up to. A quick stupid question, should we install the update first or the extra content?

With these two content packages, the order you install isn't critical.

Poser Pro 2010 is still slated for release in Q1, 2010. The PP2010 Beta is coming along well and we will have news about that soon.

The blog says the new content is clothing converted to fit Alyson and Ryan. I assume that if I have no interest in the G2 figures (I don't even have them in my Runtime) that this content is of no use to me?

Likewise, there is no point in downloading the Content Updater if If I do not use the G2 figures and their clothing?

Is there anything in these downloads that is not related to Alyson or Ryan? Sorry, but I got sucked into the world of Victoria and Michael long ago and I just can't go back to CP's figures, at least until they get a lot better. Personally, I think Alyson is a step back from Jessi and Micki, which are a step below V4.

Poser 8 comes with Wardrobe Wizard II, Imax. You might see this as an excellent opportunity to try out this tool... see how good a job it does.

Regarding the Content Updater:

Why are the furniture props by 'VP' deleted by the updater (as listed in the ReadMe)? The items, Basin, Bookcase, Sofa and Writing Desk are not replaced?

I'm waiting for WW2 to get Alice 3 and GND4 add-ons, then I will buy those plus the add-on V4 fit (oddly, by far the most popular 3D character is not included, I suppose at CP's instruction). At that point WW2 will be very useful to me. I'm not interested in buying the V4 fit just to convert Alyson's base clothing to Vicky.

But hey, for those who like Alyson and Ryan, this added content is a nice thing. I would have liked to see some new things not related to the G2 figures. The original included props were pretty good, such as the Mini Cooper car.

IIRC, V4 was never included in WW2. We all had to buy the plugin. Alice 3 and GND4 are V4 morphs so all you would need is the V4 plugin.

BUT if you already have WWII, the plugins that came with the stand-alone version (not P8) should work, right? Haven't actually played with the Poser 8 flavour of WWII myself, since Poser 8 messes with V4's materials order - grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr - just wish there were some way to prevent that or fix that!!!!

The V4 plug-in converts non-V4 clothing to fit V4. It will not fit Alice or GND4, which are significantly different body shapes and need their own plug-ins. I would use V4 in the left column in WW2 to convert V4 clothing to fit Alice and GND4 in the right.

I do not already have WW2, I have it as part of P8.

Lucifer_The_Dark posted Fri, 06 November 2009 at 6:57 AM

Seeing as Alice & GND4 are just morphs based on the original V4 body shape wouldn't the plugin still work on them?

SM may need to stop providing these items going forward, but you as the end user do not have to give up those items if you already purchased them as part of P8. Just move them someplace else until after the update and then put them back.

Whether SM has the right to remove purchased content from your runtime is a legal question I'm not qualified to answer, but I do know you have the right to prevent the deletion. At the time you purchased P8 that content was included and you do not lose the right to use it just because SM agreed to stop including it.

SM may argue that such content was a "free" bonus for buying P8 and they therefore have the right to take it back. But they would lose that argument. The price of P8 is considered to include all content in the installation.

mackis3D posted Fri, 06 November 2009 at 4:54 PM

@thinkcooper: Thanks for the answer! The items are still in the original installer of course, so...

@imax24: ...it's still in the purchased content in a way. I install every content outside the Poser runtime, so I did not delete it, but I think a warning that it would be deleted by the Content Updater would have been better than to read it after the installation. For those who install it into the runtime this is indeed an unpleasant suprise.

Yes. Sorry, I didn't answer earlier. I am not getting any ebots anymore. Have no idea as to why.
