I am planning to do material poses and image textures for it as well as poses with it with a wide variety of popular new and old human and other figures.
The Latchworm is a free community figure and resource. The worm itself has never been sold, and will NEVER BE SOLD PERIOD! It belongs to everybody, and it will always belong to everybody.
Here's the deal. point blank I want, no - I NEED some folks to start making morphs for it, and MAT poses for it, and pose packages for it both for poses by itself, and interacting with other popular figures, and also make image textures for it - because it's time that it evolved.
Now if you want to SELL accessory packages that you've made for it - then yes, go for it, but in the spirit of why the figure was created the first time - and what it represents (community), I would like a lot of freebies out there to.
Now I am NOT going to just sit back on my hands (and I haven't been as you've probably noticed) concerning this experiment in seeing how many different "subspecies" of the dreaded Latch worm that you guys can come up with. I TO will be toying with this thing to see how far I can push it when time permits.
I want to see what you guys can do with it. I'de love to see a plump fat version, or a spiny version, or a version with larger or smaller head fins, or a version covered in armored bumps, or maybe one four times longer than the original, or one that's only half as long. or maybe one with super long whip like poseable antennae, or larger more fan like tail fins, or even one covered in hair - I don't care - JUST EVOLVE IT!!! lol .
Thanks guys - Mugs.

Sounds good. Hopefully folks will come up with some creepily varied textures for him/her/it. I dare not guess what the beast's mating habits/preferences/equipment might be.
Not a criticism but an observation - on the templates, you say there are doing two formats and three sizes. I would thing that the large size could be reduced with ill effects for the purpose and that jpg would have sufficient resolution of if not, the user could easily convert the bmp to jpg if desired. For that matter, given the limited color range of a template, gif should work fine. I started to download them but 15MB for templates seems a bit excessive so I'd probably make my own. Also, could the white map not be inverted by the user to create the black one? I'm assuming that anyone with the skills to want to use these would know how to do these things as a matter of routine. I haven't seen them so perhaps I'm missing something here.

Well I made the different ones to accomodate different texturing skills and junk - just wanted to give people as much to work with as I can. I see your point - and you are correct from the perspective of a more skilled modeller sir!

"...perspective of a more skilled modeller sir!" *
Who me? My modeling skills are limited to using the lathe tool to make 'toys' for Vicky and my texturing consists of knowing how to flood fill. :-)

Actually no, slime is pretty much a requirement for alien worm creatures - even in what looks like a Brit release, probably cut.

Ajax made a pretty awesome slime shader back in the Poser 5 days. Try a search here. I think it was in a thread about Predator IIRC.

This ranks pretty high on the disgustometer.
The attached file is a Poser material collection - save as BBLW01.mc6 somewhere in your materials folders, then apply to your little bugger.
NOTE! Enable raytracing (at least 1 bounce) and displacement in your render settings.

I loaded BB's procedural shaders last night and I am very, very impressed, Kudos to you, BB. Excellent job. I also looked at the nodes in the Material Room and noticed that Gamma Correction is included. As a matter of note, Gc=2.2 is perfectly fine in Poser 7 and 6. However, if Gc activated in PoserPro render settings, the node should be set to 1. Also, in P8, if you use tone mapping, change the Gc node = 1 and set tone mapping to HSV Exponential. That is the closest thing to Gamma Correction you are going to get in P8.
Mugsey posted Wed, 11 November 2009 at 11:26 AM
Hborre can you export a procedural "texture map" for a model like you can for image based texture maps?
hborre posted Wed, 11 November 2009 at 12:22 PM
Sure. Just set up your procedural nodes for all material zones concerned and save it in the Material Room. It will prompt whether it will should saved as a collection and, I believe, it will open a hierarchy tree to make the final collection selections. The beauty is no texture maps involved. Plus, you can convert it to a MAT Pose easily.
bagginsbill posted Wed, 11 November 2009 at 3:11 PM
Thanks HB. I forgot to talk about the gamma node in there. Good catch.

P.S. - There's about 17 of them, lol.
bagginsbill posted Tue, 17 November 2009 at 11:10 PM
Mat poses? Why? We have material collections since Poser 6. After you have some stuff loaded onto your worm, just save it as a material collection. It's one extra click to save the whole collection, instead of just one material.
