Hi all.
I was wondering if any of you knew where I could buy a good quality radio telescope but also for a reasonable price.

There's none here renderosity, or daz3d, and cornucopia has this....
http://www.cornucopia3d.com/purchase.php?item_id=7673#

But I hate the base of it.

Turbo Squid have this...
http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3d-dish-model/496611

Which is perfect in every way except for the price :-)
30 USD or 40 at a push would be ideal.

Thanks.
James

In Google 3D warehouse are 2 versions, which maybe would look okay - if they are textured in Vue.

It might be necessary to run the free SketchUp program and try to save as collada .dae file (save as klm file - this is normally a zip-folder - unzip it and look for the '.dae'-object), if .skp import isn't available in Vue - but it can load Collada 'dae' format.

First one:
sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details

Second one - (looks close to the one from Turbosquid, just a more simple tube mesh in the back of the dish- you can compare it better in the Google Warehouse 3D-view of the object):
sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details

The best ones i could find right now as freeware ...

Mmh ... found some to buy - 49 $ ... 3DS format - here is the link:

www.fallingpixel.com/3d-models/3978

It's base isn't looking the best, but not bad either - but even in Vue itself using primitives, a different base could be added ...

or here - 50 $ :

Hi Arraxxon.
Thanks a million for that.

The second free one is very like the Turbo Squid one I was after only far less detail. I think I'll use that to setup my scene and save my pennys to buy the third one. The price is in euro so it's actually 72 USD. Way more than I ever wanted to spend, but if I can create a really good scene with the free model, I'll buy the other one for the actual final render.

Thanks
James

update to 7.1 - now has Collada export directly to DAE.

Your welcome - Tubbritt ...

There is one more ... nice details so ... at 3D CAD Browser ... link:
www.3dcadbrowser.com/preview.aspx

The only problem is - you have to register first and choose a registration plan. Choosing the free plan, you have to upload a 3d model and in exchange you can download one ...
But i guess, if you would be into 3D modelling, you could sit down and build it yourself ...  ;)  ...

And THX for the info, Kaibach ... good to know ...

nps.. I would have preferred OBJ, but they went with DAE... not that it was much work for them to do ;)
