Does anyone know of any free still poses/ animated poses or bvh files that could be used to create a snowball fight image? I've been trying out that fantastic snow shader that was posted in one of the threads here. It looks great rendered in Poser 8 IDL!

It does!  Show us a render.  Haven't seen any such poses around but try www.whatever3d.com to see if any does exist.

I'm not the best judge on whether the snow looks completely accurate but it is more than good enough for me. Some quick test renders I did mainly to see how to light it for a good result.

Top: Angelina Snowlie (I know, I was a bit drunk at the time and thought it was funny). BB's envirosphere with an equirectangular image I found as texture. IDL + 1 infinite light. Snow mat applied to V4.
The hair looks rubbish because if it was snow it would be solid not thin like that.

Right: Snow mat applied to Toon Penguin. BB's envirosphere again, this time with a gradient applied as the texture. IDL + 1 infinite light. This time I moved the light further back. so that the snow wasn't made too bright.

Bottom Left: Exactly the same setup as the Penguin but with 3DU's Pocket Pets Kitty plonked on the snow, without snow shaders applied to him. Because I just got him today.

Checked out the link you suggested but couldn't find any free ones that would do. Will probably look for some that have a similar stance and work from there.

Look for baseball throwing BVH, and then fight fall down BVH.  That would be fine for throwing the ball and then falling down when a ball hits.

The only snowball-specific motions of which I'm aware were by Red Eye Studio, released almost exactly six years ago, but I don't know if they're still available.

While playing around with some of the motions from their package, I produced this animation:
